Re: Impromptu Games
I am happy to see that even in these trying times of the (apparently) never ending Wars of the Coalition, at least some independent, morally objective and most of all fact-based journalists and field commanders remain, who are fortunately also able to immediately spot AND reprimand these old, overrated, tobacco addicted so-called "gentlemen" who leave their best horses back home in their stables at Hatton!

Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST. On Tuesday, after a brief period of whack'a'mole, we switched to another scenario which saw our British/Allied expeditionary force in Russia defeat the French invaders. Napoleon should be able to get his remnant forces back home long before winter sets in.

Austrian has a beach? Is that where the Austrian navy ties up?

Re: Impromptu Games
May I present the not even up-to-date state of the Austrian Navy following WW1 - first in line is the magnificent and powerful Ship of the line "Niederösterreich" closely followed behind by the Battlecruiser "Oberst Brecht"
I would particularly like to guide your attention towards the bazooka (Carl Gustav) in the rear of the first super-battleship - those are some big guns and will destroy your bicycle with a single round - if it connects that is.

By the Austrian navy, yes!
They can cycle along the riverbank and throw grenades at the battleships.

Re: Impromptu Games
It is little known fact that in June 1942, two Austrian Aircraft Carriers Gruber and Wagner, en route to the Black Sea via the South Central Pacific, were mistaken by American Dauntless dive bombers as Japanese carriers and sunk during the Battle of Midway.
Today the Austrian navy continues their tradition of Pacific power projection supporting a secret NATO flotilla of 2 destroyers, one patrol boat and an exceptionally well-armed Kayak patrolling west of the Aleutian Islands.
The fact that Austrian ships also dominate inland waterways of Europe comes as absolutely no surprise to me.

The Austrian navy's flagship's most famous operation was immortalised in the film "Apocalypse Now".

Apparently after the abolition of the nobility at the end of WWI Count von Sigmarigen-Nadasdy-Grossentrappen a colonel in the army went rogue and began to raise a tribe of primitive Bavarian militia as a private army miles up river and after all their dreadnoughts had been sunk by Italian bath toys their one remaining cruiser the "Worth-Nothing" was sent on a secret mission to terminate Nadasdy and his private army with "extreme prejudice".

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST. Now that the Austrian navy's glory has been fully described by those most knowledgeable, I can't help wonder why these heady exploits have not made their way into the public imagination. Such feats of daring do should be worthy of at least an Amazon Prime series.

Re: Impromptu Games
50-50 chance of me playing today. Hurricane Henri has been downgraded to a tropical storm … but that makes no difference to me personally as power outages are starting to increase. It is is currently intermittently very windy with rain. I could swear I saw a bazooka-laden Austrian guided missile canoe in the pond behind our house.

Re: Impromptu Games
Gents, I couldn't realize that before, but for my own taste, I'm now starting to fear I live too close to such potentially hot waters and imposing naval power..
May the threat be confirmed or any intelligence concerning new "battle cruisers" coming down from Grossglockner or Brenner Pass arrive here,
shall I start to mobilize any of my ancestor remains and bring them back to work at Venice's Arsenale?
I mean, a couple of finely constructed 16th century galleys, should be enough to counter that Neu-Habsburg menace?
Don't they?
I'm 20-80 for tonight game.

Houses? In Rhode Island? There's enough room for single family dwellings? I thought there would only be skyscrapers in that postage stamp state.I could swear I saw a bazooka-laden Austrian guided missile canoe in the pond behind our house.

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST. Sunday's battle on the Meckel map resulted in a decisive defeat for the Austrian juggernaut. In fact, one division was completely annihilated. I believe that is a KS first.

Re: Impromptu Games
I should be able to make it today. Perhaps we could play that scenario again since neither Grog nor I have seen it. Kevin can take the division most likely to be annihilated so we can make sure we repeat that part. We will just rename his division to “control group”

Re: Impromptu Games
We got distracted looking for your river flottilla, Roland!
And lost valuable time discussing about your latest summer uniform regulations.
Apologize.
They're replaying it tonight.
With Pat in command, success is assured.
I mean, French success.

Re: Impromptu Games
We allllllllmost had it today. Digby had to leave about 1/3 of the way in and when he came back our hero Kevin realized he did not have an AI French army commander and thus we could not restart. Then Grog crashed. Even with this, we almost cleared the highway. It would have been close for sure
I blame Kevin. Anyone else care to join me in that?

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST. Another "Pat commands", another debacle. Tuesday's fight was just one more in a long, long string of battles. Meh.

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST. On Friday the Austrian 1. Armeekorps fought heroically and kept the lecherous French away from our hospitals and more importantly, our nurses.
