Impromptu Games
I can play today at the usual time 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT.
The last battle saw the British badly defeated. Within an hour, the French had forced their way into Wavre where the British army's entire supply of Stilton was stored. They found the cheese to be inedible and too soft to replace carriage wheels so they unceremoniously pitched it into the river. With one British division cutoff in a forest, a second neutered, and a third out of position, the men watched helplessly as the wheels of cheese vanished into the waters. Such a devastating blow to morale caused the men to throw down their weapons and flee towards Brussels and then on to Ostend and the boats back home. Wellington has been recalled and his name stricken from use with any beef preparations. A dark day for Britain.
In Paris, celebrations erupted and carried on through the night and into the next day. However, these good times came to an abrupt end when word arrived that the Russians were marching.

Indeed, Russian batteries, rising suns and Russian cuirassiers, how much better can it get?

... and so it goes ...
Last Sunday we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat despite Kevin's best efforts to set up a scenario where the defenders -- significant numbers of whom were armed with repeating rifles (I personally saw them carried by French troops) and supported with a Sherman Firefly platoon disguised as a roving caravan of Gypsies -- outnumbered the attackers.
I must admit I smiled as I found his flank march stopped dead in its tracks by one of those "defenders" who had moved aggressively deep in our own territory. "Having trouble Kevin?" I asked myself as I rode towards his position to check into the delay. "Were you _really_ caught off guard there?" Hah!! A taste of one's own medicine is the phrase to apply here as memory serves.
What might tomorrow bring?
I am eager to find out ... see you lads there on TS at 1400 EST

I think we can all agree to lay the battle's victory laurels at my feet for stopping the assault on our LOC singlehandedly and without half of my cavalry.Last Sunday we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat despite Kevin's best efforts to set up a scenario where the defenders -- significant numbers of whom were armed with repeating rifles (I personally saw them carried by French troops) and supported with a Sherman Firefly platoon disguised as a roving caravan of Gypsies -- outnumbered the attackers.
I can play today at the usual time 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Although the French were fresh off a great victory against the islanders, the Russians were not intimidated in the least. They handily repelled the French attack at Moosburg. As they continue their march east, we will join them and try to deliver another rebuke to the arrogant French.

Re: Impromptu Games
A glorious Russian victory. Yet again.
Also nice to execute a battle plan when ultimately Kevin runs head on into the French he pre-programmed to destroy us. Phil and I had a better time of it. Lol.
One of these days Kevin will purposely use a scenario from the depths of hell to get even with me. But until then I will simply enjoy the fruits of the victory as I sit with my division on the objective.

Re: Impromptu Games
People will swear Napoleon wrote that. Actually, the Russians won a very minor victory. They captured the city of Hostomitz but utterly failed to take the French LOC at Zebrak. Better leadership would have helped. Hopefully Tsar Alexander will make a new appointment.

Re: Impromptu Games
Kevin, Kevin, Kevin
Sounds like someone is very jealous of the success at H-town, the primary objective. Thereby putting the French in an untenable position defending their LOC. I got a series of personal congratulatory letters from scores of important people most of whom I paid personally, or ordered directly, to do so. There was absolutely no bias in their opinions because I specifically told them not to include any.
I continually debate whether I get more joy in the overall success of the team or more joy in seeing you get slammed into by the very opposing troops you set up in the scenario.
Either way at least the lateral separation between my division and yours ensured the safety of my personal silverware in the baggage train. I had to replace it after you stole it the first time. Took months.

I can play today at the non-usual time 14:30 EST, 19:30 GMT. I'll post today's situation report on TS so those that arrive early can peruse it while waiting. As already reported, Tsar Alexander was unhappy with the results of the last battle. He has called on his go-to man, General Borozdin to clean up the mess.

I can play today at a non-usual time, (Brits can't change their clocks at the right time), 15:00EST, (I think), 19:00GMT.
The Russians were repelled once again in the Hostomitz region. General de Tolley has pulled his forces back to better consolidate them before advancing again. French forces have followed. To give the Russians a sporting chance, we'll play the French side in this battle.

I can play today at a non-usual time 13:30 EST, 18:30 GMT. An earlier start is needed to accommodate a player. We'll take a short break from the French-Russian campaign and play as the Austrians.

Re: Impromptu Games
I shall be there
No doubt there will be whining from certain quarters
“Oooo ooo I am so outnumbered”
“I cannot spare anyone to help”
“I need to have lunch first before assaulting”
“It would have been fine if someone hadn’t stripped me of my cavalry brigade”
“I am out of ammunition”
The stuff I have to deal with. Sigh

I should make it and the time is right for me and if needed we can start earlier until you First Worlders go back to the right time.

I can play today at the usual time 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. After the sad defeat of the Austrians at the hands of the AI French, we'll return to the Russian campaign, playing as the French this time.

I can play today at the usual time 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Another battle, another defeat. Although to be fair, the last battle would have been extremely hard to win. Nevertheless, poor generalship cannot be excused. We'll take the French side again and try to stop the Russian advance.

Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at an earlier than normal time in order to accommodate one of the players, 13:00 EST, 18:00 GMT. The Russians were badly beaten at Badenhausen in the last battle. This has caused them to fall back in disarray. Naturally we'll take the Russian side and attempt to turn the situation around. Given the quality of the human commanders, I have little doubt in the outcome of this battle.

I can play today at the usual time 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Sunday's battle was a near run thing. The Russians managed to secure a victory only in the last 5 minutes of the fight. It was a miracle really, considering the quality of the Russian commanders. Today, we'll again take the Russian side and hopefully make a better showing.
