ESSEN: "General Diericke, your insubordination and unwillingness to carry out my orders is the last insult"
DIERICKE: "Blah!...your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries"
ESSEN: "Right....me and you.....bare fists.....in that ring over there"

ESSEN: "Sir! Your hat-chicken is looking bedraggled. Is that...? Is that voltigeur brains spattered on it? Outrageous! I will not stand for my officers being seen in front of their troops - or in your case, sir, behind their troops - with a bedraggled chicken on their hats! Go back to the divisional supply train and replace it with a fresh one this instant!"

DIERICKE: “Sir the men have been calling me ‘D***Head’ all day today and my fellow division commanders merely encourage it. It is creating a hostile work environment.”
ESSEN: “I cannot help you with the pronunciation of your name. Come to think of it, D***head is a lot easier to say. No matter. Take it up with Human Resources. And while you are at it please get a different hat on that doesnt embarrass us.
DIERICKE: Yes sir. I just had some space open up on my calendar since I dont have as many men left to inspect tomorrow.
ESSEN: Very well. Now why are these men in square?
DIERICKE: “They have been doimg it automatically today whenever my horse comes within 350 yards of them. The whole brigade was doing it at Gallitzin’s urging. He told them to yell “no d***heads allowed!” while doing it.”
ESSEN: You would think Gallitzin would have better things to do. I do like his tiger-fur saddle though. Your men really ARE saying “no D***heads” aren’t they? I can even hear them above the Cossacks.
DIERICKE: Yes sir. Quite loud. Again the hostile work environment sir. You really need to intervene
ESSEN: No. what I truly need to do is commission an artist to paint a picture of your battalion like this. We’ve lost anyway. I shall find it a nice diversion

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Player's choice, a third attempt at a forlorn hope, this time with 2 cav. divisions, or playing as the 1800 Austrians.

Re: Impromptu Games
You cured what I thought was the main issue with our available resources for the attack that was the in mobility of the calvary. I will be a good sport and volunteer to be the commander and chief of today's festivities.

After another defeat at the hands of the French, the Russians have given up their dream of conquering the Yakshino valley. With tail between their legs, the Russians have retreated and the Tsar has sued for peace. With this victory, the AI has achieved the rare and coveted 'hat trick' against a hapless, human cadre, reduced to gnashing their teeth and rending their garments. I believe the French Emperor will be driving a very hard bargain at the negotiating table, indeed.
We can replay a battle between the French and Austrians that Digby mentioned in another thread, or play the 1815 Prussians, the latest belligerents to rise against France.

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. The string of defeats go unabated as the French managed a loss to the Austrians. Sadly it wasn't even close. We'll play as the Prussians today on the QB map. Also, we'll be using the Discord server. If you haven't joined, go to the Discord thread and follow the instructions.

Re: Impromptu Games
Phil, Kevin and I as the 1815 Prussians won a great victory over the French at Quatre Bras tonight despite having a very dodgy corps of three divisions of mostly Landwehr. Finally a player victory!

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. The Prussians experienced a rare and unexpected victory. Clearly the French were not at their best. We'll try to help them out by taking their side against the Prussians today.

Indeed it was glorious. And the great Digby holding the center as we shifted ... first south then west and northwest

While Phil and Ushiri took turns behind me shifting around guarding our supply wagons full of clean socks. They did a sterling job, a very valuable duty.

The Prussians were relentless in their pursuit of comfortable footwear. Kept me on my toes, so to speak, to adjust our responses

Re: Impromptu Games
Let us deal with the critical cases first. I feel that the nine men lightly wounded in Kevin's brigade should be issued new socks first, as a matter of humane priority. The dead in my division reached four figures so my wounded can obtain replacement socks from within our dedicated resources.

Re: Impromptu Games
A most excellent strategy. Footwear in Kevins brigade is a good investment. They hardly march anywhere, and when they do it is only for a few hundred yeards before stopping for tea and biscuits, so the shoes and socks tend to last a long time once issued

Re: Impromptu Games
Most curious. I saw his brigade having its third picnic of the afternoon earlier and his men were all barefoot. We should ask of Kevin if there is someone in his brigade who is stealing the men's footwear and selling them for the appropriation of funds. I know it happens though such a fine upstanding officer as he would surely not countenance such vile corruption in his own formation?

Re: Impromptu Games
Thank you. The wounded in my command will appreciate the new foot coverings. I have just spoken to the surgeon and you will all be relieved to know that the man with the infected hangnail is out of the woods and expected to make a full recovery.
As for the men going barefoot, let me put your minds to rest. The day was warm and as we were continually marching hither and yon, setting up food and drink at each spot, I gave permission for the men to remove their shoes and enjoy the feeling of the grass. The word I received back was that it was a wonderful time, with hardly a thought for the unpleasantries taking place elsewhere on the field.
During our outing, the men did stumble upon a baggage train that I believe belonged to the CinC. As I know how he enjoys the spartan life, I was not surprised to find it quite empty. Of course I am returning the wagons and horses. Three cheers and let the frugal lifestyle continue unabated, I say. Although the men's packs are a bit heavier now, they barely notice and are in high spirits.
