Re: Impromptu Games
I should be able to play tonight. Can host, if needed. Have put together another PvAI Scenario we could try, unless anyone else wants to put one forward?
The usual time of 7pm GMT is good for me but could make it later too.

Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today as well. I have 2 scenarios written which need 5 players. One is really silly and light-hearted (Austrians in Italy), the other is deadly serious and pretty tough, I think, having run it through AI vs AI 3 times (1806 Prussia). So if people want fun or a challenge, we can take a vote (plus Grog's scenario).
I have also made a fiction version of the 1815 Anglo-Allied OOB and put a link to it. It only uses Brits, Nassau and Brunswick infantry and Brit, Brunswick and Dutch-Belgian cav. All artillery is Brit or KGL or Brunswick, so we can use that OOB for fictional fights where we know the Allies won't be watered down by loads of Hanoverian and Dutch-Belgian militia. If you balance it vs French quality you'll probably get tons of Garde so it should make for some bloody games.

Re: Impromptu Games
Thanks for the game last night, fellas.
Another fun and interesting Scenario from Diggers. It was an interesting position, trying to beat the enemy collectively but still trying to gain the upper hand of your rival and win the Prestige of gaining the most objectives. Quite realistic really, when I think about it, and especially apt for the Austrian Commanders, with their infamous Court rivalry and wanting to gain the Emperor's Favour.
I like these games where objectives become more important and where a light competitive element is also introduced. Good work Martin.
I think FM Chastler's wing bore the brunt of the resistance and had a harder fight but, there again, it was what FM Gyulai had hoped for. Wafers have never been his favourite condiment and was happy to send only Kuesavich(Max) in a limited supporting role in the capture of the Convento. As it happened, Max played a blinder and excelled his 'supporting role' by notching up a Personal Best score .
It would be interesting playing that one again some time. I wonder how it might be played differently and whether FM Chastler could get back in the Emperors good books again. I do think he had much less options open to him.
Anyone else like this game concept?

Really liked the dynamics. It is a different slant on PvP and a nice thing to mix in every so often

Re: Impromptu Games
Hi folks. I can play today as well, usual time 19:00 GMT (+/- 0) ... (not +1 for summer time).
I too have a scenario vs the AI which will work with 4 players but is better with 5 as I think a free-roaming corps commander will be needed. Its a quite grim, tough scenario and will test the C-in-C and some of the division commanders to the limits... Pat?
Also a map we hardly ever use and the 1806 Prussians just to add icing on the cake.

If we get 5 i will play the free roaming corps commander. If only 4 I will still try it and be super challenged as corps and division

Re: Impromptu Games
For the Friday and Sunday games I've offered some scenarios which are linked to on Discord. I am trying to see if we can get skirmishers working again so please let me know if these scenarios allow the players and/or AI to send out skirmisher units.
If someone else has a scenario you'd rather do, that's fine.

Re: Impromptu Games
The AI will send out skirmishers as always, but players will not be able to do so manually. To allow players that ability, create a new column in scenario.csv just after Calisthenics, and label it Skirmishers. For units you wish to allow the player to put into skirmish formation, place a 1 in the appropriate cell of the skirmishers column. For an example, I uploaded several scenarios for the group to play while I was gone. They were older scenarios that I updated with the new skirmisher abilities. You can look at one of those scenario.csv files to see how it is done.

Yes, that's the change I have made. We played a couple of games earlier while you were away and that column was blank, hence no skirmishing.
If an infantry unit has a '1' in that column after calisthenics, will the skirmish formation button show up on the toolbar?

I can play today. Still willing to try my hand at a 1 v “x” PvP where I take a corps by myself. Would be a fun challenge. And my subordinates wont complain about my orders lol. But looking forward to a game of any type.

Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Friday's game could be considered a minor victory for the Russians as they managed to hold onto their supply depot and capture one important road junction. As Grog pointed out, Meatloaf once sang, "two out of three aint bad."
If you have a death wish Pat, I'd be happy to crush you. Of course we would need a 2nd scenario, as the first won't last more than 15 minutes.

Re: Impromptu Games
Definitely an interesting experience going 1 v 4. And to start the game already in contact with just a basic feel of where my troops were (and realizing halfway thru that we were on a 10-mile map not 5 ... and one must be careful using the command map as corps commander: At one point Early on, I looked around and wondered why all the divisions were headed to my spot!! Oops. And also One definitely feels the pain of external lines of communication in trying to execute an envelopment) But the nice thing is that I could give the AI orders in a sector and know it would do a reasonable job carrying out my orders while I could focus elsewhere.
I still took a beating in sacrificing a division or two but it was really fun the whole time. Perhaps we could do it again sometime in future for additional variety

Sunday's game was a bit different, pitting the French led by Pat, against the Austrians, led by four of us. It was a game of catch me if you can. But when caught, the result was inevitable.

Re: Impromptu Games
I can make it today and I know Max can.
Kevin - with the can/can't skirmish switch in column AI of the OOB, I am assuming this is still limited by the ai.dll which determines how many battalions can skirmish within a given stance. Is this correct? In the game Pat and I played yesterday I could not get a number of units to skirmish even though they were the converged flank companies of brigades, second in the brigade list on the OOB. I had given them a '1' notation in the OOB.

Yes, that's right. Also, if a player is a brigade commander or you TC a btn. in skirmish formation, he will never be able to have more than two battalions in skirmish formation at any one time.Kevin - with the can/can't skirmish switch in column AI of the OOB, I am assuming this is still limited by the ai.dll which determines how many battalions can skirmish within a given stance. Re: Impromptu Games
Regarding Tuesdays game I found that my Spanish light cavalry did not have the scout option. Did anyone else have this issue? Kevin, is there a value that should be changed in the OOB file for the Spanish/French 1808 Peninsular to get cavalry to scout?
In addition I didn't have an infantry command so could not check, but could anyone see a skirmish button on the toolbar for skirmish capable units? And could you get infantry to skirmish?
