Awesome Mike, it will be good to see you again. We've had some good turn-outs recently sometimes with 7 or 8 players.

Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT.
Sunday's battle was technically a victory for the Russians, having routed a large number of French troops from the field. Although fielding masses of unwashed serfs whose smell would rout the dead is a new low in warfare of this period.

Unless Kevin, our resident channeller of le Marquis de Sade, has a scenario for us to ... enjoy, I have a funky Spanish vs Prussians thing which we can play players vs the AI or PvP, which would need 6 players and a monster 1812 4 v 4 PvP scenario which I've had for a while now but we've not had 8 players for some time.

I think I will make it today. Hopefully my game will work on the first try after getting the latest .dll from Kevin.

Yes, it was a decisive Spanish victory. My kingship is intact.

Re: Impromptu Games
Phil's head was not intact however. He appears to have knocked it off while riding under a low hanging branch in an especially unfriendly forest.

Re: Impromptu Games
Unfortunately, I can't make the game tonight.
Thanks Martin/guys for the game on Tuesday. Cheers also, to Ehey for the Stream. Lots of good footage of the big infantry battle and memorable cavalry charges. The stream backing music was at a good level and a good selection.
The lone death charge of Thunder's Lancers was a cinematic gem, at it's saddest due to the haunting music. I swear that I saw women and men weeping in the streets of Seza. Uncannily like the charge of Valdimir and the Gondor cav in The Return of the King.
Phil's tragic death was exquisitely caught on zoom lenses camera. One can just see Kevin ride up afterwards to rescue his pocket watch from his limbless corpse. No doubt to be sent on to his family.
Great fun chaps.
Will try to play Sunday

As mentioned above, it was a glorious day for the Spanish. The annihilation of the Prussian invaders should send a clear message to all; attacking Spanish behemoth is a suicidal endeavor. By the way, my newly acquired pocket watch is keeping perfect time.

Re: Impromptu Games
A complete French victory over the Russians. Phil and I took the objective with a Guderian-like mass breakthrough and Ehey and Miko on the far left got hammered, occupying most of the enemy's attention, taking one for the team. Kevin rode around with his pretty hussars posturing and shouting a lot.
Ehey streamed the battle again so we have a full dossier of evidence for Kevin's court-martial.
Link to the replay file.

Those hussars do cut a pretty figure. I think I'll add a few feathers to my hat and perhaps a leopard skin for my horse.

Re: Impromptu Games
You're better enjoying the meal and choosing some respectable gentlemen as your seconds, instead.
Yesterday it was simply repugnant.
I'm sure you were having a nice time, exchanging loots and what else, with your best friends, the cossacks.
Luckly we've got a spare leg for being reattached to the poor Gudin.
He went above and beyond his duties.

Re: Impromptu Games
The OOBs where the cavalry is separate is always interesting. It really gets scary when the enemy has cavalry and you do not. It's even more scary when you're Gudin and have asked for cavalry support and you get a message from the cavalry saying "Dear Gudin, I have to go support Gudin so you won't have cavalry support any more."
https://mixer.com/DumpTruckGames?vod=263908127 Here's the link to the game on Friday for any interested. There's a bit of forest involved in the fighting but I was up on the front fighting the infantry the whole time so there's still some good action. And I get smacked with the reserve division and have to pull back, losing half my division. That one and the one on Tuesday turned out pretty good.
Also I downloaded the game from Tuesday so that lancer unit that sacrificed themselves could live on in eternity and it was only 5.5 GB which was way less than I thought it'd be.

Do not worry, Gudin's legs are quite safe. I'm only going to remove his head.Luckly we've got a spare leg for being reattached to the poor Gudin. He went above and beyond his duties.

Re: Impromptu Games
Condolences go out to the family of General Broussier following his tragic death following a ride-by shooting in the streets of Kelheim on the day after the battle.
In what now appears like a case of mistaken identity, witnesses describe seeing a lone, masked rider galloping past the said General and at point blank range, discharging a pair of pistols into his chest. The assassin was heard to shout "here's your Satisfaction, General Gudin!"
Several fine feathers and a Spanish pocket watch were also found at the scene.
Gendarmes are said to baffled but have been instructed by High Command to Interrogate captured Russian Officers and suspected Polish and Prussian collaborators.
General Pajol has also rounded up a dozen suspects and stated that "the Hero of Kelheim must be avenged and his murderer put to the sword!"

Re: Impromptu Games
Thank you for that everyone. I enjoyed a chuckle or two there. We clearly ought to seek to sell the TV rights to this ongoing soap opera to Messrs Spielberg and Hanks. Perhaps we could entitle it "A Game of Divisions"?
I recorded the battle as well so you'll soon all have the pleasure of reading 627 letters from Lorge to Broussier all basically saying "get a bl**dy move on!" Towards the end when Lorge starts to loose his patience the letters are sent in all upper case. Getting Phil to march north right past a Russian 12 gun battery with each gun carrying a neon sign flashing "I am a shiny thing" was more hard work than I'd care to repeat.

At ~2:48 my hired goons made a fine attempt on Gudin's life. Unfortunately he narrowly escaped and an Italian btn. paid the ultimate price.I'm sure you were having a nice time, exchanging loots and what else, with your best friends, the cossacks.

Re: Impromptu Games
Kevin, do you mean the white unoformed Regiment that got pounced on by Cossacks coming out of the woods?
I think that they were actually a Spanish Legion regiment which had done so well repelling an infantry attack. You can certainly claim that kill, indirectly, through cunning coding
There was another incident later by Cossacks from the same wood with the large Legere regiment (13th , I think, which fought admirably)standing just to the front of Gudin. It ran through the right of the regiment still in line, perhaps to the skirmishes next to it. I was amazed that both the Legere regiment and the skirmishers unscathed. The Cossacks returned back to the wood. Ehey, was either oblivious or as cool as a cucumber
