Re: Impromptu Games
In my cav brigade, 1 of my 2 cav squadrons had the ability to scout. And they even found the enemy, reported the strength and position.
Now for some odd reason they asked for higher wages and permission to be transferred out of Kevin’s command if the higher pay was not accommodated. This leads me to believe the AI is becoming self aware.

Re: Impromptu Games
Interesting. I had 2 light cav regts and neither of them had the correct toolbar buttons and could not scout. They had the old "send to screen enemy" option, with all the weird spelling mistakes.
Humour aside, I'm interested in tracing down the problem here.

Your light cavalry had an edged weapons value of 10, (they can barely sit a horse). The minimum value for scouting is 11.

I'm very much looking forward to hearing the roar of cannon and yells of victorious men in battle today

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT.
Tuesday's battle was a glorious victory for Spain. The barbaric heathens were soundly thrashed at Santo Domingo. With proper micro-management, even Pat and his men put in a credible performance.

Re: Impromptu Games
It’s comments like that that induce one to rearrange one’s work schedule and jump in a game.
Micromanaging For Success. Yes. Our CinC clearly wrote the book on it last game. Do you think for a moment that I would EVER admit that perhaps maybe possibly ONE of these messages was a timely reminder? Never!
I am busy from 1400-1430 for sure can’t work around that. But I might be able to jump in afterwards if you don’t mind pausing game and forking over a brigade ir something
I will stay in loop on Discord so you know for sure

Re: Impromptu Games
Hi again, and welcome back. Yes, games still going three evenings a week on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. We are also at the very early stages of starting a new fictional campaign called The War of the Borgenmark Succession where each player controls a small country based on Holy Roman Empire states.
The discussion thread for that is here. There is one country still not taken (Phlegmark) if you are interested:
https://kriegsspiel.forumotion.net/t2149-proposed-fictional-campaign
There is a game today at 19:00 GMT. We now have a Discord server so please get on there about 10 to 15 mins early and people will sort you out with the latest mod updates.
Make sure you have the latest version of the mod installed and working BEFORE you get into Discord (this saves everyone else a lot of waiting around).
https://kriegsspiel.forumotion.net/t1451-set-up-for-sowwl-napoleon-games-for-kriegspiel-style
And install Discord and get your mic working as well, then join our server:
https://kriegsspiel.forumotion.net/t2083-discord-server-for-the-ks-group
The latest version of the replay viewer helps with post-battle discussion and frothing:
https://kriegsspiel.forumotion.net/t1282-sow-replay-viewer
Finally do please refresh your memory of our Kriegspiel Group game guidelines:
https://kriegsspiel.forumotion.net/t1442-ks-group-gameplay
Hope to see you soon.

Friday's battle was a minor Austrian victory in spite of a questionable battle plan. Then again, that is the Austrian way.

The plan got us a minor victory but not a major victory, which is the Austrian way. Austria didn't get where it is today by winning major victories. The French do that and look how everyone hates them.

Stellar in the Austrian way. I am a firm advocate of mediocrity in my planning

Sunday's battle was an abysmal loss for the British. None of the objectives were reached, not even making dinner reservations in Santerem. Pitiful.

In Tues. game we British thrashed the hated French in an orderly and proficient manner. I guess better leadership helps after all.

Friday's battle was the same tired story. Another 20 minutes and we would have won. The Russians abandoned their forward positions and created a very impressive defense in depth around the objective.

Re: Impromptu Games
In case we need a scenario I have an 1806 Prussian one which we've played before about a year ago and my campaign start up scenario is also ready. Both are vs the AI. The campaign one will need players to download and install a new mod:-

Sunday's battle was a defeat. Bad enough we were 1806 Prussians, but our lead division tasked with securing a bridgehead, gave new meaning to the term, chaos theory. It was both mesmerizing, (correct spelling) and horrible, to watch, much like a slow motion train wreck.
Today we'll do a scripted scenario as the Austrians.

Re: Impromptu Games
Nonsense sir, utter poppycock! The lead division did exactly what it was tasked to do - secure a bridgehead. There was plenty of space for the following divisions to cross the bridge and deploy along behind us to sweep the enemy from the field - which they singularly failed to do! The only objective captured was by the lead division. I am not sure what the other 3/4 of our army was doing, I hardly saw them.
When I see you next sir, expect to have your face slapped with a silk glove!

Re: Impromptu Games
I share the SAME view of my esteemed brigade commander Digby
The term "lead" division ASSUMES there were others to follow. I do not recall any other division with us most of the time.
Certainly no other division with us the first time we crossed. Not even any artillery. I do hope you had a good view of how the French swarmed upon us.
I think after we had recrossed the second time for Digby's brigade to secure a bridgehead and held it a while did I first actually see another division line up to cross the river.
I vaguely recall another division in the vicinity of the objective after Digby and I took it. I think they were looting private homes while we fought.

Tuesday's battle, was an Austrian victory. Even Pat managed to survive. Apparently things go much better when the AI gives the overall orders.

Re: Impromptu Games
So apparently in the recent writings of Baron Jomini de Kevin, one will carefully note that he claims the original meaning of “CinC” goes back Somehow to the Latin root word for “untrained monkey”
