I can rustle something up. How do people feel about 1806 Prussians conducting an assault river crossing?

We suffered an internet connectivity glitch on Wednesday that killed our planned 4-player game. The surviving 3 players played a smaller game put on at the spur of the moment by Kevin. Fortunately by dint of excellent cavalry charges by both Grog's and Kevin's mounted arm I was able to just slide a battalion over the last objective with about 20 seconds remaining on the clock. Teamwork saved the day, and with Kevin as part of the team that truly was unusual!

For Friday I'd like to try my 1806 Prussians assault river crossing scenario again. Ever since the Fredericksburg map came out with the GB Charcellorsville add-on I've wanted to do such a scenario and after 5 years I think its time to see if our team is up to the task. This scenario needs 4 players but 5 is better as the C-in-C probably should not command troops at all, or could take a cavalry brigade from 1st Division.

Germany, October 1806

Situation:

The evil French have invaded! Treachery! This is terrible! But... we have a cunning plan to defend the Elbe River by retaking the city of Landshut and the dominating heights beyond. West of here an important road is being used by the French to supply their forces moving north to strike Berlin. If we secure Landshut and the heights we can threaten this vital link at our leisure.

Intelligence:

Our cavalry commanders have reported that a weak enemy corps is defending Landshut. This is reported to be a second line LoC formation. With our superior organisation, fearsome drill and magnificent Frederickan artillery we can easily smash the enemy at the river and push our way over. Our engineers laid a pontoon bridge during the night and we can commence to cross at 3:00pm when they have finished their construction.

Objective:

Cross the river. Capture Landshut. Secure the heights. Drive away the French.

I hate that my connection crashed I was having a blast pushing across that bridge. I will take Grawert again to see if I can do it.

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. I shall resume my task of keeping the bayonet in Grawert's back in case he develops any qualms about crossing the bridge.

Curt, have you got the Chancellorsville add-on for Gettysburg?

Did you update to the latest version of the mod? That's v1.30 of the KS Nap Mod and v1.20 of KS Supplemental Maps. See the thread on here for those. There will be a new ai.dll as well in the downloads section of Discord.

Since the Brits are late to the party, I can play today at the new, temporary usual time, 15:00 EST, 19:00 GMT.  Friday saw a decisive victory from a new CinC, Taff.  I'm not sure his men fired a shot, but it was a grand victory nonetheless.

We spring forward an hour Pat.

I can play today at the new, temporary usual time, 15:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Sunday's battle saw the Prussians successfully forcing their way across the river and into Landstat. Grawert's men performed magnificently. However the French defended the city and fighting was block by block. In the end, we made it to the western edge of town but could go no farther. We can either try this scenario again or fight a different one.

It was hard to press southward since my brigades began to pile up bodies as my men were slaughtered. Other than that it was a joyous affair.

The Prussians gained a bridgehead at heavy cost but the bridge and west bank was secure apart from roving parties of French voltigeurs and dragoons who insisted on making the evening and night miserable for their opponents. However in the morning, reinforced, the Prussians renewed the attack.

(I'll cook up a second day scenario for this one so you can all enjoy a march to the Broad Sunlit Uplands of... Marye's Heights...)

I can play today at the new, temporary usual time, 15:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. By the way, when do you Brits catch up to us Yanks, if ever? Weds. battle saw a heroic stand by Frimont. His division held off waves of attacks by 3 divisions and a corps of cavalry. If only the other division commanders showed equal celerity, the French would have been soundly defeated. Now I know how Archduke Charles felt. Do we have a scenario for today?

I should be able to make it today. And if so I have a scenario, 3 French divisions defending against the Russians. With Each iteration I strive to hit the Kevin sadistic quality levels.

It would have been interesting if I actually made sure the scenario ended at 1800. I onow I never adjusted the line. Oh well. That was a big Russian division about to strike.

But yes. There is a learning curve.

I am appropriately humbled

It was a fine scenario as is, Pat. Pay no notice of Digby. My only suggestion for improvement would be an additional regiment of heavy cavalry for my division. Very Happy
