Re: Impromptu Games
Thanks for explanations re formations and batteries.
Have you got a scenario ready?
Got some questions about why scenario file structure differs between one made with vanilla editor and Kevin's generator. Although I managed to produce the same structure as Kevin's, I'd like to know what's the motivation behind it.
OK. I think I know...

Re: Impromptu Games
All I've got is a PvAI.
I never used the NSD scenario generator. I couldn't get it to work with the KS mod. Also, it seemed very cumbersome to use. I built mine so scenarios could be created quickly, giving me exactly the types of battle I wanted by setting the strength ratios of the two armies. In my opinion, NSD put about as much effort in their SG as they did in putting napoleonic tactics in their game.

OK... the difference I've noticed is you're using detailed OOB in scenario... while vanilla editor uses reference to Master OOB. The order of columns is also slightly different.. but game reads both formats of scenario.csv file. I wanted to use your calculator with my scenarios, that's how I learned about this... calculator would crash on my scenario files so there must have been a difference.

Re: Impromptu Games
In hindsight the player teams were unbalanced. It was a good fight though and quite different again to many other games. The Custers Last Stand effect was something we rarely see. I enjoyed skulking about in the woods down by the river and skirmishing there against Joe's right flank. To hardly be able to see a thing makes for a fun game as long as you are winning - its when you are getting clobbered that HITS + trees is a nightmare.

Re: Impromptu Games
I have scheduled a SOW Waterloo game GCM style for Sunday the 14th at 8pm New York time. This is just me and we will have some GCM players, but I am not sure how many. Waterloo with all of its quirks has not taken off very well over at the GCM community. This is my attempt to try to get some more play out of it.
Everyone is invited. KS mod with Gcm rules.
All current KS mods.

Anything happening today?
OH NOOO... I've been working all day on scenario and I'm getting an error "Level Not found Brandy.lsl" or something like that... does it mean I can't use this map?
It's Aus_Brandy that I want to use...

Re: Impromptu Games

Re: Impromptu Games
I would get with Kevin via private messaging or wait until you see him on TS, he will know exactly what happened the minute you tell him. One time I had to redo the whole scenario with the generator when that exact same map mismatch happened.
I tried to reload the setup and change maps and it did not work. I re did the scenario and chose the right map and went from there and she worked.
It will get worked out.

Re: Impromptu Games
Sounds like you don't own Gettysburg and the Brandy Station add-on Miko. There are a lot of maps in the Replay Viewer/Scenario Generator folders that are for use by players that only have Gettysburg and its add-ons.
You non-Gettysburg owners SERIOUSLY should buy the game and its add-ons. It opens up lots more maps we as a group can use for MP games and campaigns.

There is one problem with this Martin... This is quite a lot of cash

Re: Impromptu Games
You could actually just buy the add-ons. They are around USD 10 or 15 IIRC. The Pipe Creek one is easily the best value for the 3 nice maps you get. Their textures are looking dated now but the tactical possibilities on those maps makes it a delight to play on them over and over again. Brandy Station is just one map but its a beauty, possibly the best texture work NSD did for GB.

Re: Impromptu Games
It would be nice if people would post if they are playing here on the forum thread. Reason for me is that I use it to plan my day, for my grandson we must do something each day to wear out some of that energy he has. So I use this as a planning tool. So if you have a game going/planned and need players please post here.
I saw that Miko had asked but no one said they were available so we did our things after lunch. Hate to miss the chance for a game.
I really appreciate it.
Thanks

Re: Impromptu Games
I was busy all day doing 1815 planning stuff and looked at the clock, saw it was 10 to 8 and logged into TS. No-one was there but Miko and Phil arrived about 8. I wasn't expecting a game either, but I often poke my nose into TS on the off-chance someone will be around. If no-one shows by 8:15 I leave.
This was a very unplanned game, so sorry about that, but at least that's rare.

Re: Impromptu Games
So, I bought Pipe Creek and Brandy Station expansions for GB... but after being unable to install them without Base GB game, I've decided to buy it, too... so that's over £40 spent on 4+ maps. So, who's got Brandy Station expansion??

Re: Impromptu Games
I am pretty sure that I have it.
Excellent. We need at least 6 for my scenario. But maybe we should prepare scenario not using GB maps, too?

Re: Impromptu Games
I have a scenario ready that we can use if we do not have enough for you yours. Once QB goes on sale I will buy it. I think $20 is a rip off for one map.

The Empire Strikes Back.
I can play tonight. All the old players have Brandy Station and Pipe Creek and if you and Phil both bought them we can start to write scenarios on those maps.
I'll put something together for one of the Pipe maps in a day or two. I have an idea for something out of the ordinary... set in the Alpine foothills... in 1796...

Re: Impromptu Games
Thanks all for participating in my scenario yesterday. There is quite a few elements to improve and I'll make sure the flaws are eliminated in my next scenario.
ps. Mike sent me a courier saying "Nice Scenario" about half an hour into a battle... I thought "I wonder if you'll hold your opinion when Phil's division and Andy's Cavalry hit your flank later on "
