Re: Impromptu Games
If anyone wants to finally press the big red button marked "War - Do Not Press" then we have several potential engagements set up in the KK campaign Wink
I wish I could do it without penalties... since I can't then I'll let others to start

I don't think we played. We had constant crashes on loading and then I left

I've got a PvP scenario created. 1806 French attacking the Prussians. It'll need six players minimum and could use more.

I'm in TS - we managed to have a battle yesterday. It seems like it's a good practice to restart PC after game has crashed. It might not always help, but surely did yesterday.

So no game today? What disaster will fall upon us for this tragic occurrence?

That's a shame I was there with SJ at the usual time but no-one else showed.
Best to get in there by 20:00 BST if you want a game, later isn't much use.

Re: Impromptu Games
We were there until just about 15 minutes before 2000 hrs your time. SJ was away on TS and none besides me said they were going to be available on the impromptu forum page so Phil went and painted and I made some Flour Tortillas which came out quite well.
How about today? Anything?

I can play today. I have a PvP scenario set up and can easily throw together a co-op game if we only get a few players.

Re: Impromptu Games
Good game today. Thanks for playing everyone. The AI did some interesting moves and Mike played a slightly-insubordinate ever-so-slightly-bonkers cavalry commander to perfection, taking on two enemy attacks on his own. Nicely done Mike.

Re: Impromptu Games
Thanks Martin,
I usually try and follow orders but this time it was a bit tough I was racking up the kills with the 2 horse batteries and really hated to leave my what might have looked bad from the ridge sweet spot.
After Miko called for the 3rd time I think, after trying to put him off and I came up the ridge only to be invited to Phils party. I got my guys all set up to move on what Phils was dealing with turned around to get my guns and they were gone, well at least I thought. They ran from the Austrians coming over the hill and hid in Mikos infantry.
My was I happy to see that!!
Good job Miko with your command and sorry I was a rebel LOL!!

If you followed the orders you could have racked up more kills by chopping down routed units - more like cavalry activity
Some observations:
1) Schmidt was saying that when using command map, the brigade will use column by division formation for marching.
What I think is happening - the brigade will preserve the formation that it has - and initially it was column by division maybe?
I've done test and sent Order to my Inf brigade to change formation to marching column.. then ordered to move with command map - brigade preserved the formation. I'm not sure if the same would happen if I pressed the button for changing formation.
2) I enjoyed being CiC and Infantry division commander while having 2 brigades under Players control. I think it makes more sense than Cavalry commander as I'd usually prefer Cavalry on flanks and that would conflict with CiC role.
3) Still not happy with how artillery behaves under AI control. I tried different stances, and it would sometimes work.. but quite often it would make nonsense re-positioning. Thus, more than 50% of time I'd just have them TC'd.

Re: Impromptu Games
Brigades like to march in Column by divisions when ordered on the command map and when ordered to form in a column formation (under movement buttons). However to ordered to form a column by divisions formation when they arrive, they instead move in a column formation and form the column by divisions when they arrive.

Re: Impromptu Games
When I move a brigade I always give it a formation command after the move command. Also if you have the 'movement' tab open you'll get different responses to if you have the 'combat' tab open. Orders given in the combat tab will preserve formations while moving (because its assumed you're in combat and tactical lines and columns are critical) while orders issued with the movement tab open will usually have your battalions form march column while they move then redeploy into whatever formation you order on arrival.
Miko - your 3 batteries were really crammed into a small space with some guns overlapping others. You need to space batteries out more and give each one an uninterrupted field of fire. Standing a supporting battalion right on top of the limber sprites might also stop them firing (LOS issue). Last night as well the enemy was moving across your front from L to R and ended up well beyond your R flank so some of your battery commanders may have lost targets.

Re: Impromptu Games
Whether units maintain their current formation or switch to march column when moving depends on how near the enemy is and if the courier orders are received in the correct sequence. I have found that it is not uncommon for the formation order to be read first and then the move order. This happens when both couriers arrive at nearly the same time. If the enemy is relatively close, based on the commanders stance, then the unit may very well stay in its current formation, or frequently change to column of division.
