Re: Impromptu Games
You missed an excellent game. It was a very tough fight. My division took the objective town early but I then had to cling onto it for 90 minutes while the enemy threw repeated combined arms attacks at me. Several of my battalions were "laying dead in their squares" as one writer commented after Waterloo. A real nail-biter. Sometimes these games make it feel like you're dealing with a human opponent and not an AI.

Today's PvAI
The Battle for Loab Strasse
War has been raging, battles have been going to the east and the west and both Armies are scattered about. Superior Russian Intel has located a concentration of Fr forces on the Loab Strass guarding the crossroads and the all important supply line that crosses the river to the north. Available fresh Russian forces have been dispatched to this area to smash the Fr and take this all important piece of strategic property.
Good Luck Mother Russia needs a "V"

Those that played the other day and anyone that has SOWGB will have it. Otherwise, it will have to be passed out prior to the battle.Kevin will everyone have the NAP AUS Brandy map?

There is a little mod on my Dropbox called "Aspern Heights Mod". It contains the necessary files. Everyone is free to grab it and Andrew, Phil and Ian Wall have it from the other day.

Re: Impromptu Games
So how did it go? I had to leave my Cossack brigade in order to execute the critical mission of bringing pizza back home from Costco. We had approached the objective from the west ... Funny how we took a road that wasn't marked on the map ... Ran off some guns and played chicken with French cavalry. Got them to surrender then gathered ourselves back together and Andrew took over.
Other than Kevin sending me a courier message telling me that things were oh-so-terrible ( Wahh wahhhh crybaby ) I really don't know what transpired. And even if I WAS anywhere near Kevin I would have helped him anyway.
Andrew - a pleasure serving with you, as always.

We did manage to win. I didn't even realize you were on the field. Were you involved in any way? See any enemy? Perhaps you forgot to move your troops.

Re: Impromptu Games
It's good that there is finally somebody able to appreciate my efforts. Yesterday I almost had to leave the Faro table from the deluge of messages asking for assistance. What bi-pedal scum of the earth in their right mind would think that if they ask for cavalry help, they have the slightest chance of recieving it?!
Oh how I miss the days when cavalry was cavalry and infantry knew to keep their needs to themselves. None of this combined arms blasphemy.

Re: Impromptu Games
I wholeheartedly agree, Andrew. As a proud horseman the "combined arms" idea is clearly a euphemism for "infantry welfare" ... a social program to provide a safety net for branches of service that cannot survive on their own devices.

Just remember, before there was a horseman, there was an infantryman.

Don't listen to Pat Theo he is a fly boy they are really not an armed service they are just a service that delivers ordinance when the kings of battle call.

Re: Impromptu Games
Indeed, I can see one day where the infantry's fusillade will become so great, rapid and numerous that cavalry will be removed from all warfare forever, probably to be replaced with another infantry contraption, such as multi-firing, moving cannon.

Re: Impromptu Games
I am sure it takes time to polish all that leather and buttons, so it is understandable the cavalry is reluctant to move and risk dust covering all their hard work. Perhaps if we could induce our opponents to wear colorful feather bonnets and shiny brass and silver accouterments, we could induce our less than bright mounted friends to chase after such pretties.

Is there a game today? Would like to do PvP as we haven't done so many of these recently and last night's campaign game reminded me of how much more enjoyable they are.

Re: Impromptu Games
Plus you can watch your opponents cavalry ignore their own infantry just like we do
Armored contraptions with cannons ... Fanciful thoughts of infantry dredges. And yes Kevin it took me 12 hours to get my saddle scrubbed and cleaned. 12 hours! I barely had enough time to finish watching our infantry get slaughtered.

Given that he soils himself whenever the enemy comes into view, it's the least he can do.

The only blessing a CAV man should get is "May a thousand fleas infest your saddle" that is another reason why he has to clean it.

Re: Impromptu Games
I always retire in the trees before the enemy arrives, answer nature's call and then hop back on my exceptionally clean saddle. If there is any substance coming from an orifice it is saliva as I have my brisket lunch whilst observing the infantry follies and cries for help like the little separation-anxiety babies they are. I clean it because it has been my experience that riding too close to our retreating, disheveled and generally foul-mannered infantry leaves marks on my saddle and - sometimes - on the bottom of my horse's hoof where it impacted the chest or head of one who got too close. I prefer not to live in filth or get blackpowder stain anywhere near my uniforms, thank you.
