Re: Impromptu Games
I can't make it today, my 'puter is in the shop for repairs. The HDD is knackered and the repeated HDD accessing during the Grautzsch battle is probably what killed the game.
I am also having a few other tweaks done and doubling the mainboard RAM.
Should have it back by Friday when it will need an SoW test drive.

Re: Impromptu Games
Come to think of it, I'm convinced it was the lack of RAM that was causing the severe performance problems. When the game runs out of RAM that the OS can spare, it will use VRAM which is just a partitioned portion of your HDD that runs much, much slower than RAM. That's why there was an immediate and drastic decrease in the performance when the french sprites started loading in and that's also why the HDD had to run at full speed.

Re: Impromptu Games
Might be the case but my HDD is exhibiting other signs of problems such as my web browser taking a full minute or more to load and a simple app like Word taking 30 to 45 seconds to open a document during which time the HDD light is flashing constantly.
It's 6 years old and also quite full so I think its time for a new one.
I'm doubling my RAM as well so I hope this will fix the severe problems we've been seing recently. If you remember Saalfeld was very laggy as well, as was Weimar.

Re: Impromptu Games
I have put together a small scenario we can play at the usual time, 20:00 BST, 15:00 EST. The cavalry regiments differ in size by +/- 300 men. I'd like to see what impact that has on the game. I have also made a few more changes to the dll. These should somewhat help infantry to form square sooner and also make it more likely that battalions will move in column of division. If you want to download it prior to the game, here is a link: New dll. It will replace the one in the KS Napoleon Mod II 1.18/Modules/ sub-folder.

Re: Impromptu Games
As tomorrow is Mother's Day here in the US, I'll put a scenario together for a game today at the usual time, 20:00 BST, 15:00 EST. The 1807 Russians are on deck. Everyone will need the latest dll I posted yesterday. The link is in my previous post.

I should have WL re-downloaded, installed, patched and modded in a little while.
Would anyone like a wee game today at the usual time so I can test it?
