Re: Impromptu Games
It is parallel to the ground but raised a bit. When you are close to it, it is easy to see which way it points. Far away, I zoom in on it and can clearly see it and rotate it if need be. The 10 yd. elevation makes a big difference in seeing it. That really doesn't detract from the playing experience. In fact it sometimes helps with seeing around the ubiquitous flag that is always in your face at a critical time.I would like to try your new destination pointer. Is it still flat on the ground? Do we need to try any other designs?
I also took the liberty to get rid of the horrible rotating gold wreath that surrounds the unit you select. Sorry, but it had to go.
I don't have anything new to test today. I've mostly completed the porting of the KS mod, without portraits or a new toolbar, to the new game. I should be able to upload it later this week. The arrow mod will be part of this, of course.

Amazing news. Thanks. The Order of St Digby with rabbit pellet clusters and dried seaweed is well-deserved.I've mostly completed the porting of the KS mod, without portraits or a new toolbar, to the new game. I should be able to upload it later this week.

Please don't ever give me this highly esteemed award, once it got here, the humid heat, obnoxious odor, evacuation of customs and then the deportation for importing dangerous and noxious items. LOL

It's about time we got on to more important issues. I thought KS SOW Napoleon Mod II was appropriate. But I'm guessing there will be dissenters in the cheap seats.I just have to ask KS SOW or SOW WL??

I can understand that too. Let me know what time and I will be there to see what you all figure out. Or let me know here on the forum.

Re: Impromptu Games
We should just call it KS Napoleon mod (as the existing one), but increase the ver number to 2.00.

By God, that man does war honour!
I agree with Diggers on the new mod title.
Kevin, glad you managed to elevate the Mouse Destination graphic. I've done some experimenting with it and have attached the graphic to try out. It sens out lines laterally like the vanilla but also front and back. Thought these might help. Thought about giving these different colours, so that you know if it is inverted etc. I can make it have the glowing effect too, if needed.
I'm sure Kevin's is cool but just thought I would throw it out for feedback.

Have a good game, fellas

Re: Impromptu Games
And the bleacher bums have put in an appearance as predicted. The only problem I see with just changing the version number and not the name is folks mistakenly trying to use it with the old game.
Mark is right, it was a great chaotic battle. There was a huge cavalry battle on one wing, a Prussian divisional attack against two French corps. That didn't turn out so well for the Prussians, and plenty of combined arms maneuvering of cavalry and infantry. One new cavalry behavior I noticed was cavalry moving up on its own to support undefended artillery from a cavalry attack. I don't know if this is new behavior of just the cavalry's lust for its enemy counterpart. I also saw this to some extent in yesterday's affair. We may need to dial back the constraints we've placed on the cavalry in the mod. We won't want to kill off the good behavior.

Re: Impromptu Games
Sorry for having to cut out early! I clicked a wrong button and ended up commanding an entire French corps. Which I'm sure everyone found hilarious and suiting because of my usual over the top bravado lol. I was able to use the command map and it actually wasn't impossible to manage that many troops. The ai did some impressive things. Mark led his division against a Prussian division to which I then flung my whole corps. 19,000 Frenchman against a single Prussian division. God what a sight!

In that case KS SOW Napoleon Mod II is fine. The only problem I see with just changing the version number and not the name is folks mistakenly trying to use it with the old game.
Sorry I couldn't make the game, it sounds like you had a blast; I just wasn't in the mood. Still working thru campaign things.

I'm saddened that my game bugged out! It was just getting interesting.. I was literally just sending MTG a courier to warn him about the huge sea of French troops on our right!

Re: Impromptu Games
Ny Cav sent me a message saying that I believe our right is weak make your reserves ready. I was like reserves?? He obviously has not played with me enough
I sent all 19,000 Frenchmen in when I saw that isolated Prussian Division attempting to attack Mark's division. Bah, why would I keep reserves!

Re: Impromptu Games
I think the word that best defines the vanilla SOW WL is promissing.
The feeling and flavour of battles is "more" napoleonic. It will become a great modded game.
Never saw before a division completely surrounded.

Re: Impromptu Games
I followed some AI controlled cavalry to the Coalitions left. I tried to help the AI division with a cavalry division of my own.
It was more than a bit frustrating as the cavalry squadrons will attack wholly on their own. I was unable to form a line without 1 or 2 squadrons advancing on their own before the entire division was formed up. At 500 yards from the enemy they may act independently. In a hits game I cannot TC every squadron. I was planning on a massed cavalry charge, but I couldn't get a stable line from which to charge from.
I had under my control 2 cavalry divisions. Unable to effectively control that many troops I sent 4 squadrons to our center to help out the rest of the army. I let the AI commander do his thing. These squadrons did a fantastic job under AI control. I never saw them after 40 minutes, but I checked on them throughout the battle. By casualties they did a great job so I guess they were helping out our center/left.
We tied up a lot of Prussians on our right with some cavalry. Eventually, I pulled my horses back as I was just frustrated trying to control my cavalry. I ended the battle controlling my squadrons dealing with enemy cavalry and giving protection to Marks infantry.
I am learning so any help you guys can discover playing cavalry send my way. Cavalry without infantry support is not good when confronting enemy cavalry and infantry and especially when your squadrons stat advancing on their own. We need a hold order that works.

Re: Impromptu Games
Ha you did very well! Cavalry is extremely hard to command: very soon I suspect that additional formations will be molded into the game. In reality it is most difficult for anyone here to command much more than a brigade of cavalry due to the intense micromanaging involved. When you command a division most players only use a couple squadrons and allow most of the division to be in reserve. Really, you only use your whole command against other cavalry; against infantry a mere squadron or two forces entire brigade or division to change into square.
Cavalry is very challenging and exciting when in the proper hands. You did well!

Sorry Guys that I have not been around to game much recently, especially to test out the new game.
Its all my usual RL issues and nothing to do with a lack of interest in the group.

Re: Impromptu Games
What is scheduled for this weekend pertaining to battles?
I'd like to see the full Waterloo battle played out or at least a 14 or 20 person battle. To do that I will have to try to get some of the other smaller groups in on it and some of them will not be willing to play HITS. Many GCM players are holding back on Waterloo so there seems to be a shortage of MP players at the moment.
