Re: Impromptu Games
PC is acting up - really slow and painfully unresponsive... not sure if it settles down until 2100 - if I am not there by 2010 BST - please do start without me - means I was unable to get everything going again - meaning my sophisticated "wait and hope for the best" tactic failed with the PC...

Re: Impromptu Games
I've got friends coming over this weekend so many not get much time to play. I wasn't able to last night due to having a ton of laundry and cleaning to do.
I *might* be able to make a game tonight but it's doubtful. More chance of me being free Sunday night. Saturday is a definite no.

I *think* I can play Saturday. My first for a while, and looking forward to it.

Re: Impromptu Games
The way I see the strategic situation, it will be almost impossible for me to play today, saturday and sunday should be OK.

Re: Impromptu Games
sounds like I have to play against myself tonight - what a shame... that'll be boring
I'll be in TS around 2000BST if someone changes his mind

Re: Impromptu Games
I finished all my chores and dropped into TS just now to find no-one there. I was shocked.
Can't do tomorrow but will be there Sunday unless the SO causes grief.
While we are on the subject, during testing are there any house rules we think are worth having? I assume HITS at 2 yds is a no-no for now, so do we fix it at 50 yds? Anything else obvious like trees always on? What about the radar? Should we use this opportunity to always recommend its turned off? Generals at 250 yds?

Saturday could be good for me. Maybe possibly tonight. I do not have the new SOW Waterloo yet. So will there be any "old" mod games?

Re: Impromptu Games
Hi Pat.
Probably not for the moment. I think everyone is keen to play the new game and give feedback on mod potential. That is our focus for now.
The Peninsular Campaign will continue with SoW:GB KS Nap Mod for now. I still have a few techy things to clear up on that though before the next turn is run.

Re: Impromptu Games
we actually played with 10 yards last night - and it worked just fine - at least for me... noone complained as far as I heard.
I even tried to stay lower and it didn't really make a difference... all I can suggest - find some high ground and do NOT micromanage - then all is well with HITS...

Re: Impromptu Games
It was a good battle. We had 7 players in a co-op fight. I think the new arrow helps a bit. With the camera height at 10 yd. it gives just enough perspective to see the arrow and which way it is pointed.
This was a sandbox battle with a LOT of cavalry. The AI did a credible job with it. It prioritized, (spelled correctly), opposing cavalry and also worked well with friendly infantry and artillery to force the enemy into squares. It's obvious some bit of work went into this feature. Beefing up its offensive power against retreating troops will make it an intimidating force on the field.
Here's a few shots I took. The corps begins to deploy.
The battle begins
This was a bad day for that French square
Happiness is having the corps reserve artillery
This is not a sight you want to see
The sprites are remarkably crisp

This was a fun battle.
Playing at 10 yards from the saddle makes a big difference -- so much easier to select units and move your officer.

Re: Impromptu Games
Nice pics, Kevin
Glad it went well. I'm sure I can live with the 10yds height setting, for now at least. I wonder if having the camera that little bit higher might represent superior real life vision. Hill height in games tend to be slightly exaggerated, anyway.
I would like to try your new destination pointer. Is it still flat on the ground? Do we need to try any other designs?
