Personally, I have trouble playing on weekends in summer. I'm almost always off.
Much better for me to play in working days. Even at late hours.
Remember you also that I only have the main game and I have no other addon, so I can not play with all the maps.
Good luck mates

Sorry to hear that Alberto - you should really think about getting the other add-ons, Brandy Station's map is especialy good and very well suited to Napoleonics with a mixture of flat open land and small rolling hills plus some woods and streams. It has a very 'hot and sunny' colour pallet and looks a lot like bits of Spain.
We have 5 Spanish now and if I help out the French, 4 on that side so I think we are good to go. Mark, if any GCM guys want to join you on the Froggy side, just invite them over.

¡Hola mis amigos!
Riding at the head of Saint March's column, my picture of what happened at the Battle of Atalayuclas was necessarily incomplete. With reliable intelligence from our brave scouts (and certain patriotic elements from the local population) that Vedel's division was the sole French formation in the area, we had wisely decided to pry the Frog from his defensive position without recourse to a crude frontal assault. After all, though we knew his troop quality was poor the French had not conquered half of Europe merely by being the best-dressed soldiers around!
Teniente-General de Quesada was left standing orders regarding his defense of the crossings, while we performed a flank march and descended behind the French left flank. Wary of any trickery, we dispatched brave Astevidas to scout for any French to our right, and thence to shadow them... or rejoin us.
That was the last we saw of Astevidas or his brigade until the end of the fight.
As we approached Vedel's flank, we spied French cavalry out behind our own right flank and shot a cautionary courier off to Astevidas. This impelled us to move faster as we could not rely on the French being unaware of our movements as we rested and formed behind them - so we transferred our march to a more easterly road, determining to pry him away from the river to open up an avenue of retreat if it were required, and else to allow Quesada's men to more easily support us.
Marching south I formed my lead brigade (Sarsfield's) with my battery just behind it on the ridge and set about engaging the French. Three regiments moved forward to fix the French foot - leaving room for Trenio's brigade to slide around our left and concentrate on the crossing area - while the others pushed up the hill to engage the French guns, capturing two (from memory) and finally being forced into square in the face of the French horse, who were content to stand scarce ten feet away from our foot and menace them while the remaining French guns belched canister into my lines.
The fighting continued all across the line, and around the time that we finally fell back from the hill - French foot coming from their reserve somewhere to shoot into our tight formations - we observed further French columns in the distance. With still no sign of Astevidas - and fearing the worst - we determined that our intelligence was faulty and that the French were in the area in force.
At that stage I communicated with Sarsfield and Trenio that our new focus was to force a crossing and reunite with de Quesada. Focusing our efforts we were able to - if not break through - then at least force back Vedel's blocking elements. Marching briskly along the riverside we were able to get our guns and our lead brigade across, and were preparing to launch a counter-attack to force the French from the crossing to allow Trenio to join us when a heavy storm hit, putting an abrupt end to hostilities.
I have no notion of what was going on to our south, as de Quesada has yet to report for his debriefing but to my mind the French army proved superior in numbers overall, as well as of cavalry and artillery. His quality and weapons were also superior, and it is a testament to Spanish courage and our leaders that we fared as well as we did. While we did not triumph over the field, neither were we forced back from it and our wounded will have the shelter of Atalayuclas itself to recover and ready themselves for the days to come.

Re: Ye King of Spaine Inn - NPC OOC Discussion
I was thinking that after battle reports will get lost in here so I will set up a thread for news and reports for each battle. You could copy/paste Justin.
Now...
Action on the Adajo!
Our second battle will be fought this Saturday at 19:30 UK time. Both Grog (Cuesta) and Andy (Moncey) can make that date so I don't want to waste it. Its a pretty small battle and so only about 4 players per side can be accomodated, so its first-come-first-served.
Mike and Andy, please use the team forums to issue your orders. Everyone else can sign up here. Thanks.

Well that's the Spanish side sorted! Thank you gentlemen. I can give myself an unattached general this time who can just observe, so we now need 3 French players.

I may have a party that I have to go to around that time on Saturday. If that is so, I trust Soldier or someone else to take control of the French for this battle. I will issue my initial orders of how to proceed though!

Well that's a shame. I was sure that on Sunday you said you could do this Saturday. I hope I didn't misunderstand you.

Worry not. He will be there. There's no party more important than the Empire's domination of Spain.

I think the champagne might flow a little more freely if the Empire gets to dominate England.

Yes, it is 19:30h UK time. So far:
Grog/Mike, Khryses/Justin, Uncle Billy/Kevin, Palmer/Ron for the Spanish.
Little Mac/Mark, Leffe7/Stefan, Martin/Martin, Hays/Niall for the French (Hays will stand in). I can take a small French command or even just an officer with no troops (like a division commander if the brigades and the guns are all commanded).
I think there is also an officer without troops on the Spanish side, so I can slot in either place.

Re: Ye King of Spaine Inn - NPC OOC Discussion
I spent today re-formating my 1TB hard drive, repartitioning it and re-installing my Windows 7 Pro operating system. Last time this happened, I didn't have a product code for the copy of my OS; this time I did have it, so I saved $300 and did it myself. Tedious, but successful! Tomorrow, I will spend time re-installing SOW:Gettysburg, etc and scurry around to be sure I have the correct mods installed and modified and all the rest. More fun that I know how to describe, but saving $300 was worth it!!

Re: Ye King of Spaine Inn - NPC OOC Discussion
No, not just for the practice. Something was causing my computer to crash at irregular intervals with random and different error messages on the BSOD. After running all the diagnostics I could find both on the Internet and in Win-7 Pro, I had no clue. So, I watched for a couple of days and thought I saw a pattern: the crashes always occurred as I was using my thumb-ball mouse, usually just after I began moving the mouse. I checked those drivers and all associated stuff and found that I was using an adapter (USB-->PS2) to plug my mouse into the computer. I removed the adapter and tried without it. The system still crashed and when it got to the point where it simply refused to boot normally, I went into safe mode and restrored to "last working settings" and from there reformatted the HDD and re-installed the OS. Sorry to have left that out, but it seemed to me to be long and boring and tedious to post it. But now you know! Today, my mission is to re-install SOW etc and see if I can carry on. By the way, four hours on the internet today, using the mouse as usual, and no BSOD and it booted normally first thing today. So far so good.

Re: Ye King of Spaine Inn - NPC OOC Discussion
Most likely you had a corrupt mouse driver. But you may also have been victim to a virus or rootkit. Either way, your solution would cure the problem.

Re: Ye King of Spaine Inn - NPC OOC Discussion
After the Alagon battle is over I'll spend a while tidying up Turn 2 and sending out casualty reports and other news to a few players who are still waiting for there turn feedback and accept any retreat moves or follow-up moves from commanders who fought battles, then I will put the campaign on hold until September 1st. We lack players for the MP games in the summer plus I have a stack of other projects to do.

Re: Ye King of Spaine Inn - NPC OOC Discussion
I really should get this restarted. There have been a few reasons I've dropped out of the KS group over the summer. My personal life is not going well, lost my job, money is a great worry... all those kinds of hassles make you lose interest in having fun. Its the reason I dropped out of the Shiloh game at short notice. I should also say that I've been seeing my GP and a specialist for depression, stress and anxiety issues, so its not been a great summer and autumn, all told.
Another obstacle is that with the introduction of the updated KSNapoleon mod it will mean every single one of my many master OOBs needs updating. Some are already advanced from the base OOB after one battle with stats and experience being amended so I'm not sure I can cope with editing all these.
Big sigh.
I could probably use some help here. I really would love to see the game continue and if the players want it to I'd be willing to bite the bullet and try to get things started again.
Regarding the upcoming battle of Valladolid I am tempted to "Kriegspiel" this on my own as its a very one-sided fight and probably would not be much for for either side. It would mean that the Spanish Army of Castile is mostly destroyed but they do actually have a second formation well away from danger so its possible for Castanos to take command of that and carry on as a viable force.
I'm open to players comments and ideas.
