Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Friday's battle saw Vince take sole command of the French forces and just manage to hold on and defeat the Austrians. The result should come as no surprise as Pat was in command.

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Sunday's PvP fight ended in an Austrian victory, (everyone now knows which side Pat was on). The French made a concerted effort on the Austrian center, but Phil was not to be moved. He didn't even have any woods to hide in.

Re: Impromptu Games
would be good to swap sides now and see if we get the same result again... I looked into the battles that were unquestionable total victories and for instance Austerlitz, using % of casualties difference would result in French win of 26 points... while Friedland would be over 30 points win... so I need to adjust the thresholds in my future scenarios and maybe add some incentive to keep the losses low, too...

Re: Impromptu Games
It is quite hard to attribute victory points that are well adjusted I would say.
Maybe we should also include routed / prisonners units. Wiki says that at Friedland French had 12 to 15% casualties (wounded and killed) and the Russians 15% too. But the Russianswere completely routed, and had 10 000 prisonners because constantly chased during two days and forced to surrender due to exhaustion.

Re: Impromptu Games
I think surrendered units are included in the casualties that Kevin gives us after the battle... with routed is different story - most of my infantry brigade left the field from being disorganised and low morale rather than from casualties.. would be nice to know the numbers though - this could help with the outcome calculation...
Also Vince - I watched your planning session on Ehey's youtube and commented there about the OOB - not sure if you look at Ehey's channel, so just the quick explanation.
The Austrian scenario was designed for 2-3 players per side.. so if there are 2 players they will get 2 similar sized commands while if there are 3 players one will get a full division while other 2 would get 2 smaller divisions (but that's better than just a brigade)... The British scenario was designed for 3-4 players per side.. 2 full divisions + one split... so not really for 2 players... but as you can command 5 divisions alone, I thought it won't be a problem for you

Re: Impromptu Games
At the very beginning I thought it was unbalanced, by finally worked fine. I think I get traumatised by the first battle of the ridge with my two british corps split apart and no way to command them proprely while Pat was attacking with a toy division

Hey Sokowl - we thought you were gone...
We play some PvP stuff more often now so the more players the better. And my scenarios involve small divisions
Next time Friday 19:00(UK) as usual

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Tuesday's fight just might have set a record with 5 restarts. In the end, the French were able to hold Kelheim and keep the Russians at bay.
Sokowl, we play every week on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Friday's battle was a refight of Sunday's with sides reversed. At the end of a somewhat less bloody day, the French attained a marginal victory. The one expected result; Pat was in charge of the losing side.

Re: Impromptu Games
Kevin, in total it was more bloody than the previous attempt - 29% and 33% casualties makes it closer but previously it was again 29% for French and 18% for Austrians...
So we've won with the casualties that were previously total loss for French... it's like Wagram bloodbath scaled down to the Corps level...
I'm working now on the mini campaign - interestingly there won't be victory points and casualties wont count towards score either, but they will be carried over for the next battle...
If you wonder how do you win/lose campaign it's if you drive opponent off the field 2 times..
so there could be 2 outcomes of the battle - either both sides are still on the field (none of the forces moved to the exit zone) - or one of the forces withdrawn to the exit zone (aka left the field)... I won't have it ready for tonight but I hope it's gonna work...

Re: Impromptu Games
I worry if the victory is determined when one side leaves the field, no side will ever want to leave. There should be an incentive for withdrawing.

Re: Impromptu Games
The incentive is to preserve the army for the fight on another day - in between battles there will be couple decisions to take for both sides (like which brigades should have priority in reinforcements)... and some decisions will be available for the side that lost - for example given 2-3 maps to select which one would be the next battle on... because yes the next time they can't leave the field... another advantage for the side that lost last battle will be given priority in choosing the players... in short the victorious side will be put extra hurdles before them... so unless they annihilated the enemy in the first battle - unlikely... they will have harder task next time...

Re: Impromptu Games
Hello Guys,
I've recently joined the forums and you invited me to your online game a few months ago. Been playing the game on-and-off for a few weeks now. Still have a lot to figure out, but I might be able to join your battle tonight if that's possible?
Are there any steps I need to do before I can join in the battle?
Greetings!

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Tuesday's battle as the Prussians was victory over the French. The smaller of the 2 Corps did the heavy lifting and their tactics will be studied at the Prussian War College for decades to come.

I will be there to provide yet another case study in excellence (or lack thereof) to any war college willing to pay for my dinner. Turns out this approach is an excellent way to not overeat and lose weight
