Re: Impromptu Games
Last night's battle went very well. We did something a little unusual and played the Russians. We were tasked with taking Papelotte and Smohain from the snail eaters. We only managed to do so in the closing minutes of the battle. The French just didn't want to give them up.
Tom was CinC, in command of the reserve division with Ron as a brigade commander, so of course he engaged the enemy first. I think they fought the entire battle and finally captured the objectives. Pepe was in hog heaven. He commanded a regiment of cuirassiers and guard hussars which he put to very good use. I had a heavy position battery which was sited on a fine hill and did enormous damage to the enemy. Martin defeated a very strong French division single-handed. Mike's division roughly handled a French division, but he had a bad internet connection and dropped shortly thereafter. AP514, (I don't know his name), commanded one of Mike's brigades carried on and did very well in his 1st MP game with us.

Re: Impromptu Games
It was an excellent scenario particularly in terms of balance between human and AI capabilities. We almost didn't get the job done as the team had to make tough choices between focusing on destroying the French (ordinarily, a sound strategem) and going for the objective. Though everyone did a fine job laying the wood to those nasty frogs, it became a near run thing because of the strength of these chateau-farms in SoWWL. Mental note: when tasked with taking one of these fortresses with limited time, get fire on them as soon and as steadily as possible. Thanks for the scenario, Kevin. Much fun!

Is anyone free to test the new KS Mod update this evening?
I can't play tomorrow or Saturday so would like to today if possible.

I'm sure the right plan, (a plethora of multi-colored arrows of course), will lead us to a glorious victory.

I have been taught to use two colours... if two countries are involved... that will never change...bring in a third nation and we can talk about a third colour... MAYBE....

Re: Impromptu Games
Err..........I made the mistake of reading the briefing, and have just noticed the following:
Feldmarschall Leutnant Martin Dedovich (12704 Inf. 975 Cav. 14 Guns)
This starts off rather well with the Feldmarschall bit, but then takes an alarming turn. We are going to need some really good arrows to get out of this one .

Re: Impromptu Games
briefing?? what briefing? All I am seeing is names and numbers...
For all I know this Austrian Column got itself lost on manoeuvers, is trying to get back home into the camp for the night and all we'll be facing are the husbands of all the farm girls the CinC and his staff were busy with today... so maybe around 50 or so...

Re: Impromptu Games
Have we played this scenario before? I feel sure we did a co-op game vs the Austrians a while ago while Uffenweiter was the objective.
I doubt I'll be there tonight so have fun and grab a few French damsels for my collection.

Yes that's a very fair point. Notably absent is any mention of the enemy......
You could be right. Not that I'm worried, but what is the Average Experience rating of their husbands?

Re: Impromptu Games
I am under the impression that with the GB game, playing Kevin's scenarios, it took around 30 minutes to start the fighting. Now with WL it takes a full hour or the best part of it to hear the sound of the guns. What do you think?

Re: Impromptu Games
I hadn't noticed a difference. It probably varies a lot. The Russo-French game near Hougoumont last week encountered the enemy very quickly - within 15 minutes probably.
I was sorry to see last night's game crash. This was presumably with 30 couriers per side?
It was turning out to be a very good battle, though I doubt we'd have won, or if we had, it'd have been pyrrhic.
A panoramic view using three screens stitched together of my sight of the battle as my division arrived in its reserve position. This is looking due north with Kevin's "eat roundshot" division ahead along with Roland's "What?? What?! Idiots!" cavalry brigade. My grenzer brigade has just deployed to the left and on its right one of my batteries gets into action. Far right some of Kevin's infantry have had their fair share of French roundshot and are off for an early bath. I have my picnic table set out and my camp chair. My adjutant is just serving the canapés and a crisp Chablis at this point.

A few minutes later. The starter of an Austrian pear salad with raspberry vinagrette has arrived. So has my cavalry brigade and von Friberg's Hungarians. Looks like the roundshot eaters up the hill are enjoying themselves. I sent a courier at this point offering them some vinagrette but he never returned, only his bloodspattered horse. Can't get the staff.

The main course of tafelspitz and weiner schnitzel is served. My troops await orders. The mayhem in the north continues. I can't abide noisy neighbours. It so ruins a fine al fresco meal. I wrote to the French commander asking him to turn his cannons down and he replied that he'd be stopping soon as targets were becoming sparse. I thanked him for his gracious consideration for me and my staff who were only just on the third bottle of burgundy.

Re: Impromptu Games
Excellent pictures. I may nick your 2nd one for the mod. The warm love the French artillery was giving my squares was absolutely brutal. I really hate it when the mod adjustments I make are inflicted upon me instead of the enemy. There's just something unfair about that.

Re: Impromptu Games
it worked out nicely though... I believe all those little changes will eventually result in a mod that comes as close to the real thing as the game engine permits...
PS: dito on your pictures there, Martin!

it's Thursday and we still don't have any specific plans for tomorrow evening? I'll be around this weekend again- hopefully we'll be able to get something going....
PS: I wonder if it would not be prudent to have specific threads for the day a battle is happening - ie. Saturday game etc... would take away the special thread for a specific date - no?

All the more reason for others to try their hand at creating scenarios. I'll put something together for Friday and Saturday. I can't promise anything yet - but I might get Office with my new setup... however it'll take time to get things going...
but I quite agree - more people should give it a go - it's not that difficult - I had a look at it - and if I claim that it's not that tough it must be plain dumb simple

Re: Impromptu Games
As an interim solution to the issue - can't we just replay older scenarios and simply switch sides? there should be a ton out there - most of them are most likely forgotten up to a point... and most include some form of objective in the Coop games... so the AI should be able to play either side - no?

Re: Impromptu Games
I have some of the ones played with the first game. However, it's not so easy to convert them thanks to MyGUI. The OOB id's are different and MyGui demands the new ones. It would probably take as much time to create a new scenario as retrofitting an old one. Compliments of NSD.
