Re: Impromptu Games
Trouble? Yes I am known to the French as General Trouble, they promptly and clearly identified my division as the biggest threat to their Emperor and sent everything they had against my men. Waves of bearskins.
No easy answer, beer with the appetizers, supper with wine and dancing with rum and coke, a lot of ice and a small cut of lemon.
what was it the Paella or Sangria?

You guys should put these pics on NSDs forum. It'll sell the KS mod really well. Everyone like Russians.
Roland - can I suggest you switch off unit flags in options? That'll get rid of those hideous gold stars.

Re: Impromptu Games
As I need the practice in the new game - is anyone around this evening EU time? Usual 20:00 BST start? Even just a couple of us in sandbox vs the AI would be helpful to me right now.

Summer maneuvers; healthy exercise and nice food in nature. I do it very often on the beach.

Hmmmm .... Perhaps my Latin is rusty but it sounds like "maneuvers" is roughly translated to "Holiday" in Latin. The root word "maneu" is key element to the Latin phrase "we-got-them-thinking-we-are-actually-working" ... Like I said, it has been a while (like never) that I have studied Latin.

Roland is infantry so it aint training if it aint raining. Something a fly boy has no idea about you guys fall apart if there is no milk and sugar for your coffee where we are just ecstatic to have it!
Pepe was in the CAV so he knows these fine things too fly boy. Ah it is nice to be in a group that has more grunts then fly boys or swobbies.

Re: Impromptu Games
Sorry I crashed out after twice doing the stupid right-click-on-an-already-selected-unit-flag-and-thus-crash-the-game thing.
In any case my (left) flank was very quiet. Pepe helped me shatter a French division SE of La Belle Alliance and I was leisurely following up the remnants to the SE towards the E of Rossome, there was little left in front of me and I had only used 1 of my 2 brigades, the second had stood at the back all day quaffing vodka.
It was a nicely paced battle I felt and had a very Napoleonic feel. Some of the frenzied density of GB battles has been done away with in WL as units are spaced further apart, making the battlefield feel much bigger and grander.
EDIT: My Russian infantry sprites had the flickering graphics error again. Looked like their heads were exploding or something.

Re: Impromptu Games
A few pictures from the last battle.
Not a pretty picture if you're a Frenchman. I had a full division of Russian kirasirys. That's even better than Russian artillery!
Our infantry did a good job of weakening the enemy. Once it appeared the French were nearly through, it was time to send in the vultures.
These bad boys make a real mess on the battlefield.

In other words. . . Kevin's pretty horse boys sat on the ridge behind me and watched as my boys took on what appeared to be the whole damn French Army for about an hour.
Kevin did send me a few encouraging couriers: "Looks like your getting flanked on your left." To which I replied, "Well, you could do something about it."
He then sent a squadron forward and forced one French battalion into square. Then he put his squadron back in his pretty line.
It was a good fight.

Infantry is cheap, especially with an infinite supply of serfs. My pretty cavalry on the other hand...

Re: Impromptu Games
I am glad that the cavalry under Kevin stayed defensive until the end or the infantry would have seen ANY combat at all...
I am glad we got to have horsemen screen our infantry at the beginning though - first time I have seen it that way - and it felt bloody realistic! Only issue was that "my" horsemen didn't want to reform behind my infantry - instead they just charged and killed everything...
this was waiting for the infantry-only Frenchies:
and one of my batteries ended up with over 1900 points - also due to the bloody "shoot through own soldiers" issue...

Re: Impromptu Games
Well I tried to fight very little after I got 2,000 points with a couple of squadrons of cossacks and 50 casualties. After that I just protected my horse battery (they got more than 2,000 points as well but with just 8 guns) deployed in an excellent position. And gave some support to the flank of the infantry battalions close by.
It never rains to everybody's taste. It seems that next time Kevin should give Roland support and I will team up with Mark.

Re: Impromptu Games
oh I believe you misunderstand Pepe - your support was excellent indeed! - it's just that cavalry is still too powerful to be realistic - and I don't like seal clubbing the poor AI- which is already at a disadvantage to begin with
let's be honest: your cavalry division alone would have been enough to kill all the French on the field
