Re: Impromptu Games
I'm pleased everyone seemed to enjoy that mod, the early 1700s are not everyone's cup of tea and the style of fighting is quite different to both ACW and Nap. Cavalry are especially difficult to use well. I wanted to gauge people's reaction to it though as I'd like to use parts of it for my 18thC fictional campaign.
We also hit some pretty bad lag which may be my fault as I'd installed SweetFX earlier in the day but not tested it. I found it impossible to alt-tab out of the game without crashing it and bringing up a directX 9 error which is weird since I use dx11.

Re: Impromptu Games
Anyone up for a game this Friday about 20:00 UK time? We could do another Blenheim game or try the Fontenoy mod which is even more colourful but plays rather fast. I'd like to try the latter mod as I am starting to compile a list of things I want in the Ne Plus Ultra mod and want to take the best parts of both these mods so MP feedback will be very helpful

I might be able too, it would just depend on the starting time. Early is good the later start might not be. Hope to see you all later.

I use the lo-res version as my PC can't handle the hi-res one but I expect that does not matter in MP and we can mix the mods.

Re: Impromptu Games
are we gonna have a scenario prepped this time? - we shouldn't have to pressure Kevin into making up an ad-hoc one within 10 mins again...

Re: Impromptu Games
I have never used Stefan's Scenario Generator so any scenario I build will have to be hand made. That's a tall order when I have no idea how many players will show up. I can build one but it may have to end up as co-op vs the AI if we only get 3 or 4 players show up.

Re: Impromptu Games
oh that's not how I meant it actually... I just thought we should give him a headsup - some time to prepare it... that's all...
besides Coop vs AI is fine by me... especially with fewer players showing up!
PS: just tried out the Mod in SP - very good looking sprites - very nice gameplay... the guns even turn on their own I believe...

Re: Impromptu Games
I have an OOB written up, 3 divisions per side so it will suit 6 to 8 players, or if we have fewer then co-op vs the AI.
It uses the Manassas map.
Yeah, I hate those turning guns, looks so silly!

Re: Impromptu Games
I might be able to swing it tomorrow. Of course, the time change could completely screw me up for what time I'm supposed to be online. I'll try to err on the side of too early...

Re: Impromptu Games
Not yet but we can do something. We could try a re-run of Martin's Little Big Horn game on a different map and maybe using a different US column.
Failing that I could throw together a Blenheim scenario.
I have a Fontenoy Mod scenario done for Monday.
There's also the Reisswitz mod (without the upgraded artillery) and of course ACW!

The usual - 20:00 GMT. We have no game specifically planned but there's several things we can do in a hurry. I'd like another Custer game myself, using a different US army column.

Re: Impromptu Games
That sounds great! If I can make it I will be there. Fridays get hectic around her in the afternoon. When you guys spring forward I will be one more hour behind you and then things will be earlier.
Hope to be there.

Re: Impromptu Games
Roland, Morsey and I refought the battle of San Milan scenario from the Peninsular campaign last night. We played the Spanish. If you recall this was the Army of Asturias' first combat when it was small and useless vs Gen Mouton's fine 3rd Division of Bessieres' corps.
We had:
20 battalions, all experience 1
2 squadrons, both experience 2
2 batteries, 4x12pdrs and 4x4pdrs, both experience 2
Mouton had:
10 battalions, all experience 5 or 6
2 batteries each of 6x8pdrs and 2x6pdr howitzers, both experience 6
We just won but it was touch and go and Acevedos' army was pretty beaten up at the end, thought still a coherent force. The French still had several battalions in working condition but we decided they had lost the San Milan defence line plus we had half a brigade behind them on the Miranda road so their LoC was in danger (I told Roland and Morsey - neither of whom were present in the original battle - they needed to get a full brigade across this road behind the French lines to win). Probably the AI did more damage to the Spanish than the player team did in the actual battle but in our re-fight the Spanish lost sight of the primary goal which was to cut the French LoC and instead focussed on destroying Mouton's division.
I didn't think such a mixed set of objectives would suit a co-op vs AI game but it worked and was a lot of fun. Fighting exp 1 troops vs exp 5s is a challenge.

Short notice, but I can make a game today if anyone's interested. Will look in on T/S just before 19.30 UK time.

Re: Impromptu Games
Bravo!
Here's a link to the latest version of the ACW Additional Flags & Sprites mod, in case we use that https://www.dropbox.com/s/b7wcp3fwf8cegby/Additional%20ACW%20flags%20%26%20spritesv1_47.zip?dl=0
I have a scenario sort of prepared, if there are enough of us.
