I want to try out my new Kriegsspiel I bought, but my friends are all unavaliable. Then how about a PC kriegsspiel? I have some ideas that can be changed in case you have better suggestions. It goes like this:
1- Discord for gathering and map sharing (I will be the unpire)
2- Image editing software IN SCALE -important!- (I will go into details on how to do it when we start)
3- Instead of letters the players send me their orders in DMs, I move the pieces, and then send back the maps.
4- The dice rolls will be done by a random generator which the result I will screencap if requested.
Is there any game-breaking flaw in my idea or is it ok? If you're interested contact me: Discord - Der Swag #2501

Re: Von Reisswitz 1824 PC
I think your approach should work, Mr WB. A few suggestions:
a) I don't think you will need to provide proof re die-rolls. The type of player normally attracted to k/spiels is very happy to trust the umpire. Plus, the person running the game does not need unnecessary tasks if the game is to move at a good speed.
b) You need to make provision for players sending messages to each other, after an appropriate delay. Communication lags are a big part of both the challenge and enjoyment of the game
c) Consider starting small. Run a pilot game with say just 2 players (on the same side, so you have the comms aspect). If that works ok, you can scale-up.
Hope that helps.

Re: Von Reisswitz 1824 PC
I and about 30 others have been running PBEM/Forum Kriegsspiels for a couple of years now. Your ideas are not too far at all from what we've been doing.
One thing we've found to be invaluable is something called Tabletop Simulator, a game available via Steam. We've used it for all of our mapping. I have a number of Kriegsspiel assets I'd be happy to share with you via Steam.
I agree that sharing die rolls is probably not necessary. If you're the Umpire, players generally go with what the Umpire rules.

Thank you Martin and panzerde for the replies. Great to hear my idea was not too far off and communities like the latter mentioned still exist. I'm really grateful and interested about those assets as well. My Steam nick is the same as here if you have the time, panzerde.

Feature on the website
The PBEM element of Kriegsspiel sounds really interesting.
As some of you will be aware the Little Gaddesdon gang have started to revive the Kriegsspiel News website. This is a more stable platform than the old website and we have moved across most of the original articles etc.
Always in search of new content so if there is more to say about this element of Kriegsspiel and how its done please let me know.
Cheers
Steve
