Re: Impromptu Games
I have just knocked together an 1815 battle on the QB map. We will be the French. I'll post up details asap.
I wanted to test the east side of the map again to see if that bug preventing saves reappears. We will be playing from a different direction however and I have tried to get the AI to avoid the ponds.

Re: Impromptu Games
Belgium, June 1815
Situation:
We have advanced into Belgium with the plan to defeat first Blucher and then Wellington and drive on Brussels to push our beaten enemies apart and back along their respective lines of communication. Two days into the campaign a detached Prussian Korps, that of von Bulow, has been noted by our advancing cavalry encamped at the town of Thyle. Reille's II Corps d'Armee has been tasked with destroying the Prussians and capturing the towns of Piraumont, Thyle and Avelines to secure these positions as a springboard to our next advance on the Belgian capital.
Intelligence:
Our cavalry have decisively pushed the weaker Prussian light cavalry lines in and we can be assured that our knowledge of the enemy is most likely correct. Bulow's Korps is centred around Thyle with a division at Piraumont and another posted in the defile between the woods to the east, guarding the approach along the Chaussee de Namur. There are less certain reports of a reserve division north of Avelines. Our cavalry screen has pushed to the north-west and almost reached Quatre Bras but there has been no contact with the enemy here.
Objective:
Secure the three towns. Do as much damage to the enemy as possible.

I plan to be there today for the game since it is my day off. I have AI scenarios for 2, 3 and 4 divisions for consideration

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Weds. game saw the French just barely managing to take the three required towns. More importantly, we didn't crash 1 1/2 hrs into the game on this map. Perhaps it is fixed.

Re: Impromptu Games
Was interested in the comment re the map. What sort of map issues would cause a game to crash? Broken roads/tracks for example? Or do they just send the AI's pathing a bit haywire? If not that, what might cause a crash?

Re: Impromptu Games
There is a strong correlation between the rate at which Kevin is taking casualties and the probability the game will crash due to “something with the map”
Not trying to imply anything. Just an observation

Re: Impromptu Games
Well possibly... However in the case of this map, I think it was the incorrect way the "no entry" grayscale pixels were applied around the pond. Fixing that problem was the only change I made to the map. There is a strong correlation between the rate at which Kevin is taking casualties and the probability the game will crash due to “something with the map”

Whatever you say Kevin
Just curious why the mobile breastworks pixels always seem to be near your brigades

I can play today. Pat, do you have a scenario set on openish terrain? After attacking up what felt like the Mekong Delta into Cambodia on Wednesday I could really use a map with less vegetation.

Re: Impromptu Games
Yes I do
A 3-div on Waterloo map and 4- div on a prussian map. I think we will do the 4 - division game. It is called “the lost battalion” where one lucky soul will be isolated to the point he cannot sit in on the pre-battle briefing and his map is marked differently than the main column
It is against the Viet Cong if that is okay with you. Actually with French that would be Viet Minh. And for some reason the lost battalion is holding the little Prussian hamlet of Dien Bien von Phu

Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. The French side prevailed Friday. While three French divisions needed two hours to defeat a single Prussian one, I had to hold off two others. This would not have been much of an issue, and completely expected, but those other French commanders acted as if they were my saviors. It was a reprise of Jena and Auerstadt. I'll take my "Duc-dom" now.

Re: Impromptu Games
When one is getting trashed, one always assumes the enemy has more men than you, a common mistake Kevin, so do not feel bad about it.

Re: Impromptu Games
My division’s rallying cry as we pressed west to (1) find you and (2) save you centered on a theme involving your personal welfare. As I recall some of us - at least those who didn’t know you at all - were genuinely concerned about your health. Be that as it may, rest assured We were ALL concerned about getting to your personal baggage before the Prussians got a hold of it.

Re: Impromptu Games
I seem to detect a whiff of sarcasm here. A paranoid person, or one that knows his fellow commanders well, might believe there was a mutual understanding to leave me in the lurch. Nevertheless, the Duc du Auerstadt soldiered on and held off the Prussian hoards with a sanguine, savoir faire expected of a Duc.

Re: Impromptu Games
“Leave in the lurch” is a bit too harsh. We are going to simply give our divisions reasonable westward orders, hope they fared well, and meanwhile ride way ahead together with our Avatars a la “Magnificent 7” and find a nice hilltop from where to watch you get pummeled
So we would actually be there right with you. Just not with any combat strength

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. Sunday, the Austrians fought a very good delaying action while the rest of its army deployed in depth at one of the objectives. By the time we won that part of the fight, the sausage eaters were well prepared and held us off for the rest of the day. Do we have a scenario for today.
