Anyone up for a game this Fri, Sat or Sun?

We've a few additionaal things to test out such as our new town blocks which ought to make attaacking villages and farms a little more difficult.

I think Kevin is working on an artillery tweak.

I need to command cavalry more.

Any games now will be more of a testing situation rather than fun for the sake of fun but if anyone wants to lend a hand tryong out the new ideas and giving feedback, all are welcome.

I'm available at the usual times. But how can you have more fun than watching the two armies annihilate one another in 5 sec. when they both have the same start location? Very Happy

The french had their way last night. In the first battle they overran the Allies, (us), and threw us out of the town we were defending in very short order. In the 2nd battle, we french, outnumbered by more than two to one held off repeated Allied attacks. One of our grenadier squares repelled 5 squadrons of maniacal light cavalry before being forced to retire under heavy infantry fire. Great games, gents.

I will be available for another round today if there is any interest. I'll be on TS at 1930 BST.

Sure, we still need to test those buildings defences. I think in the first battle the French threw in several battalions at each building so it was extremely hard to defend/support them. I had 2 Exp5 btns each throw back 2 attacks from Exp6 troops but be pushed out by a third, or overwhelmed by firepower. Grog had an Exp4 Btn throw back 4 separate attacks, in one of these capturing his opponent, so quite a bit of variation in results.

In the second battle I am not really sure what happened but the AI attack was very poorly co-ordinated.

In the first battle the skirmishers were very vulnerable and easily pushed back due to intense aggressive tactics by the AI while in the second battle my 2 Chasseur Btns had a blast, slaughtering 100s.

2 extremely different fights, as you say.

Thanks for the games fellas. Using skirmishers in these smaller games was interesting. Martin, who was closest to me, showed great skill. I need a little more practice.
My battalion in the walled enclosure repulsed several assaults. Each assault being a single battalion, I think. This was good IMHO. A coordinated assault should give better results, hopefully.
It would be nice to have walls integrated closely with buildings if poss. Fights for key built up areas or strong buildings would add much to our tactical games.

The walled enclosures do represent buildings. When you place a unit in them and check what terrain it's in it'll say "town". Kevin bumped up the defensive bonus from firing to make towns quite tough, and lowered stone walls as well since unlike the ACW, troops didn't make use of these very much, unless they were skirmishers.

We can place the town blocks were we like but in order for a town's defenders to really interdict an enemy I prefer to see them placed near road junctions etc if there are any, rather than tucked away in the middle of a bunch of buildings. If the defending unit is too tucked away, and it can't hit much, there's more temptation for an attacker to bypass it.

We ran another test tonight me vs Kevin, each of us with 2 brigades and a battery, all units of Exp5 IIRC, the fight lasted 90 minutes and finally my Austrians got in but only just and both divisions were completely wrecked. There were three town blocks and I was surprised how long the defence held up in some cases.

The skirmish units were quite effective in town fighting too.
