Hi there.

Just checking: there is no game scheduled yet for this weekend, is there?
Would someone be interested in an ad-hoc game Saturday evening, or perhaps today evening?

I'm not going to be able to join you, unfortunately. Damn work schedules.

I have now started looking for jobs that give me more sensible working hours.

Have a good game chaps

Yes, Stefan, no game planned as yet. No campaign battle this turn yet either. Where are those French orders!? Shocked

I can be there both Fri and Sat probably. I'm supposed to be having a Skype group chat with some other online friends one of those evenings but it seems to be one of those things nobody can get organised!

Are we saying 20:00 UK time as usual?

I'd like to try another Nap Rusian game. The last one on the Lynchburg map was a bit odd and confusing - too many woods for Russia! Then my PC decided it needed to reboot itself about an hour in, so ... yeah... another of those or a Blenheim game would be great. Despite some odd behaviours the Blenheim mod has a very nice 'mood' to it. It needs an open map though.

Busy at the flea market again, I'm afraid.  One of those Russian battles sounds interesting, tho.  *sigh* P.S. - I've already turned in my orders in the Campaign. Wink

I can make a Russian scenario on one of the Chancellorsville maps. It will have the forest density greatly reduced of course.

But LOS is still reduced on the CV maps, right?
We could use the 10milemapV2.

Yesterday I played with Pepe and it worked now that he is on Win7.

Good news about Pepe. Nice open maps are Gettysburg 5m (there's still parts in the far west of that I've never played a battle on), Alpine, East Cavalry... there's parts of Brandy Station that are suitable if we avoid the central forests. The whole east side of Crampton's Gap, ...or how about one of Garniers Randoms from the 6 or 7 set? Those flat open rolling terrains would fit quite well. We need room to deploy those lovely huge batteries Twisted Evil

No, I increased the LOS when I reduced the tree cover. For most of the map the maximum LOS in wooded areas is 700 or 800 yd., compared to 1000 yd. for open ground. We can use any map we like, I just picked a C'ville map because we have not spent much time playing on those.

Is C'Ville a paid mod map or free?

It's a paid expansion. You can get it at Matrix.

Morsey, if you turn up tonight I am sure we can arrange to play on a map you have. Its not like its a critical thing like a campaign battle. I'd be up for using one of Garnier's maps. Or Alpine which is always a fun map for Napoleonics. Or as Stefan suggested, DaVinci's 10 mile map. Never played on that at all.

Lets try RandomMaps6. Here is the download link: Random Maps 6

The 10 mile map is really large. We'd spend a lot of time marching.

I view the 10M map as like a campaign map. You just have to select a small area of it to deploy both sides and an objective in.

A few shots of my Russian division in action in the centre of our line from yesterday's game. It was a pity I didn't video-record this one as it was visually a very pleasing battle as I had high ground for much of the fight with a spectacular vista of the French army below me on the plain.

A brigade commander keeps a watchful eye on his soldiers

repeated furious French attacks

At the height of the battle the Russian line bends but doesn't break

Nice game, and a good learning on HITS after watching the replay. Next time I'll do it better (hopefully for my poor division cut to pieces).

You have been thrown in the deep end Pepe, with HITS games. The veteran players here, for months and months only commanded brigades - its only recently we've moved up to commanding divisions. To be given a division to command without previous experience must be daunting. If you'd only like a brigade for a few games so you can get comfortable with that, that would be fine, I think.

No Martin don't worry I want a bigger division. Laughing

I had some training in SP with french small corps, but it's much easier, you know the AI will come down a road, it is just a matter of taking a good position.

It was more the case of an inexperienced general looking for glory. I went to far from the rest of the corps, and to make things worse divided my division in 2, I was facing a bigger division with cavalry, so it was too much for my troops.

It was big fun, and the closest one can feel to a real XiX century general. bounce

Thats the spirit Pepe!
You couldn't win that fight. The idea was that you act as a flanking force for Martin. But it turned out you engaged a detached part of the enemy which drew you away from the center and was much larger than your small division.
Next time dont hesitate to fallback or call for help Wink
