On the New Market Doodle, are you gentlemen seeing your native timezone displayed?

I can see 1700, 2000 and 2300.
Is this now my time zone (CET)?

I see 1600, 1900 & 2200. I assume that is GMT.

Re: NEW MARKET DOODLE
Saying GMT is confusing as the UK is currently not on GMT but BST (British Summer Time) which is GMT +1.
To complicate things more we go back to GMT at 1:00am on 28th October.

Re: NEW MARKET DOODLE
Digby, that's my worry. We go to standard time the first weekend of November, a week after you do.
I set the doodle to show local times for each user, but was worried it wouldn't show the correct times, but it appears to be doing so.
For simplicity, let's use Zulu/UTC time for everything and folks can convert as needed.

In any case, the times proposed are 4, 7, and 10 pm GMT, no matter what they convert to stateside.

Re: NEW MARKET DOODLE
As I have often noted, I am always open to playing on either side, as needed. Just let me know far enough in advance to avoid knowing the other side's plans.

Could you put your availability on the doodle page, Jack? I don't think you're there yet. Maybe you could put 'US or CS' by your name.

I have already posted on Doodle....because I am a Yankee.......
But, as I said, I can join either side, as needed......or unwanted.

Most of those are if need be's.
Only 4 CS players...
I think we want at least 5.
I'm looking at Sunday, 28th or Friday Nov. 2.
However, if this happens sooner, that's fine with me. Corps/Div commanders may want to weigh in. We need to ensure the OOB is manageable.

How do we convert "if need be's" to "yesses"?Father General wrote:Blaugrana wrote:12 people able to play today at 2200. Is this happening?

Perhaps we should say that the yellow/maybe option cannot be used. Players must give a definite yes or no, as we are stuck with the same problem of chasing players up if they have a yellow flag up.
Neal, can you e-mail the "maybe" players and tell them 22:00 is definitely on? We should aim to meet at 21:30 for pre-battle tactical discussions.

Re: NEW MARKET DOODLE
I've always understood 'if need be' means what it says: 'I will play if need be' ie, if that turns out to be the game time chosen.
If people use it like that then I think it should be counted. If people are using it as 'don't know' or 'not sure' or 'maybe' then it's a problem.
As Doodle has one function, and does it brilliantly, I take it they've got their wording pretty spot on and use 'if need be' with care.
My 2c worth - a game this late is past my bedtime!

Sorry if this is too late. It just seemed that 12 players able to play seemed about as good as it gets.Father General wrote:Digby, I can't do anything for awhile, I'm at work and can barely put up this reply.

Re: NEW MARKET DOODLE
I can play tonight (I'm CSA). The only reason I put "if need be" is becausetechnically I'm not at New Market. But I'm happy to fill in for missing CSA players. Where are they all anyway?

Re: NEW MARKET DOODLE
I would say that whether your brigade is present or not, you should say yes or no depending on your availability.
It seems to me that ppl are losing interest or patience. We have had this doodle page up to refer to for days and emails should have ben sent out for todays battle to make sure the "if need be's" attend. Leaving it until on the day to chase people up is too late.

I have been waiting, hoping to see a balance between Confederate players and Union. Until yesterday (I think) we only has 2, maybe 3 COnfederate replies.
Tonight I will close the poll and get specific. I will set the time and date for the battle, and we'll have to let her fly.

Re: NEW MARKET DOODLE
The problem is the CSA discussed their battle plan and we need a minimum number of players. I suppose if, after X weeks, only one side has consistently put enough green boxes on Doodle and the other hasn't, the umpire declares it a win for the side making the most effort. I would be fine with that.
In our previous scenario games the umpire/scenario writer has put in a lot of effort to e-mail all players up to a week beforehand of the best date and send out briefings etc. I too, as a campaign umpire have found it requires a lot of hard work to get the players along to the game, givinmg everyone enough notice and so on. I'd say we need about 4 to 5 days minimum notice to fix a date once one looks like its going to fly in the doodle page.
I, Hays, Grog and Flashman were in the TS channel just now and no-one turne dup, so as well as the doodle planner the umpire needs to be making big efforts too. There were potentially 6 CSA players able to play tonight.
