Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at the non-usual time, 15:00 EST, 19:00 GMT. I have a PvP scenario ready, Russians vs French. Also there will be a new version of the dll that will hopefully make the cavalry a little smarter.

I am not sure that cavalrymen should have the wisdom to choose the most vulnerable targets:

Right now I'm just trying to get them to get out of the way of flying cannon balls.

Gentlemen,
Please permit me to join you.
Any intervention that prevents needless aquine suffering has my support. I fear, however, that little will prevent my propensity to create mountains of horse flesh when given adequate opportunity.

As Martin said, cavalrymen are not the brightest bulbs on the block, so feel free to charge down the barrels of the guns.

Re: Impromptu Games
We didn't really get a chance to test it. The cowardly Russians were afraid to fight.

Re: Impromptu Games
I did see something I have never seen before which was a fresh cavalry regt charging a battery frontally and stopping at about 30yds or less and running away. From what I could see of the cavalry action on my right flank cav seemed a little less gung-ho that usual. They acted timid and tired sooner than I normally see.

Re: Impromptu Games
I was surprised when they came up on the flank of your guns, which using Grog as tin cans. I thought this is going to be good.
THEN RUN AWAY

Re: Impromptu Games
They were not on the flank Mike, it was almost frontal and they took several canister rounds on the approach. I assumed that was why they stopped. I had also given the battery orders to withdraw which some guns had, plus a square had formed behind them. I wonder if the cause of them breaking off the charge was a combination of these things.

Re: Impromptu Games
When I sent them that way it looked as if they were going to get a flank. After that I did not see much since they (CAV) blocked my view. I am sure they redirected fire but I was thinking being that close they would go threw with the attack since I ordered them too. But they went all Phil on me. LOL Hahahahahahaha!!

I'm available for a game today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST, (Europe has finally caught up to the US ). British vs French is on the menu.
The only cavalry change I made was to try to make the cavalry retreat when being pounded by artillery. There was a bug in the original coding, plus I added few lines of my own. Today, another change will be introduced to affect another aspect of the cavalry; melee targets.

Re: Impromptu Games
So if cavalry are stood in reserve resting and getting thumped by artillery, will they move away?

I noticed this with one of my cav units when I was regrouping - suffered some casualties from artillery and ran away - the distance as for "retreat" order, in direction away from enemy guns. Maybe it was a coincidence but it looked right.

Re: Impromptu Games
If they had high morale when it happened, then it was due to the change.

Re: Impromptu Games
Nope.....I quit and curse you oh Digby and Phil for not coming to my aid and for Kevin chuckling as Phil assigned me the center.
But on the other hand I should make it. I am considering the use of the new tactic of going South when told to go North.

When the term, "Irresistible Force", is written on the map, that's a clue. Just sayin'...
