KS Napoleon Battle Wednesday, Sept 16th, 20:00BST, 15:00EST
1. General situation.
The French forces crossed the Danube early this morning through a pontoon bridge around Oberdorf. Latest intelligence from our cavalry scouts states that by 11:30hrs the French pickets are situated south of the line Badenhausen-Legau-Kirchheim, their main body is deployed for battle 400 to 500 yards behind the outpost line.
The strategic genius of your cousin, Archduke Charles, shows up through his fresh orders just received:
You must evict the French troops from their support points on the northern bank of the Danube.
Take the Legau Heights and hold them in strength. If you are successful we can achieve a stunning victory cutting off a strong body of the enemy.
The green symbols represent a flooded road, not suitable for movement of troops(the road looks OK, but in scenario testing the units using road movement didn’t take it).
2. Austrian forces:
The forces under your command are detailed below. What are you waiting to throw the French invaders back into the Blue Danube?

I am afraid my PC won't let me open the map... it says that it does not support this file type - although it shows up as jpg
we will therefore have to do without pink arrows:

I remember this terrain from the last time we slaughtered the French here. Will these garlic-eaters never learn?

You could make a copy from the jpg that's in the replay viewer. With one of those fake mustaches, you'd look good in pink.I am afraid my PC won't let me open the map

if the chief of staff can't provide the CinC with proper material - he can't be bothered to get his fingers dirty....
will you never learn?

With commanders named Yodel-Sang, Jelly Chick, Kleenex and Frisbee I am not sure any number of pink arrows will save us.

General orders:
III. Armeekorps, Hohenzollern-Hechingen
The Corps will swing to attack the French left in force - we will attack on a NE-SW axis and eventually try to cut them off any possible withdrawal over the Danube.
Division Klenau will be the Corps reserve and is to be deployed as needed - it will always keep a central position behind the rest of the Corps.
My divisional commands must stay in contact with me and each other at all times. Duels have been prohibited until further notice. Court-martials will be held at dawn tomorrow!
No one division is to attack on its own - always wait for support and ensure that you have scouts and patrols in all possible directions at all times - no surprise assaults and raids by enemy troops!
Your cavalry should be first in line as you conduct road movements at all times, so that you can delay the enemy forces, should be surprised by them.
Initial deployment:
1) Vogelsang
You are to take the road west from Austingen and then turn south at the next crossroads. In doing so you will find out of the French have any troops past the Badenhausen-Augsburg-Wertash line. If not, you will deploy your division between Augsburg-Wertash facing East and link your command with Jellacic's division
have your cavalry first in line to be able to react to any French troops along your axis of advance.
Should we be able to deploy along the Badenhausen-Augsburg-Wertash line you will then be our right flank and push the French back along the river line - once you reach the Danube-knee you will find a fordable place or an intact bridge to cross it and then ensure that the French cannot escape to the south! - your main target will be Obersdorf - unless otherwise instructed! Be sure to stay in contact with Jellacic on your left!
2) Jellacic (MTG)
Your division will be the centre of the Corps. you are to move to Austingen and then turn south as to deploy between Badenhausen and Augsburg. You will both link up with Vogelsang on your right and Fresnel on your left. All this of course barring any troops in the south-western sector of the map. Your main task is to link the two flanks of the army and keep them connected - follow their advance and be flexible - no doubt the spot where I choose to deploy the reserves will advance faster than the others - you must keep the army's MLR intact!
3) Fresnel (Digby)
Your division will move to Rohr and then head SW in order to find Jellacic's left flank - there you will deploy facing SE, with your first target being the Legau heights. Once we have taken the Legau heights you will advance towards Kirchheim and then swing south towards Schongau.
4) Klenau (Iberalc)
Your are the Corps' Reserve and will always maintain a central position behind the MLR - in the intial stages this will most likely be behind Jellacic's division - Once called upon you will ensure that the sector you have been committed towards is victorious with all possible speed!

I do not like that Vogelsang and never have. He was always shirking his duties at the academy, always ducking out and leaving me to pay for the evening's entertainment at the "ladies auxiliary". I would just as soon put a pistol ball between his eyes as help him.

My mind's internal memory cache instantly filled with possible responses to Kevin's question, resulting in a bad frame & crash. Rebooting now with the aid of an adult beverage...
Re: KS Napoleon Battle Wednesday, Sept 16th, 20:00BST, 15:00EST
This made me laugh.
Also - awesome game last night. Really good though exhausting due to War of the Spanish Succession concentrations of enemy cavalry! I had to fight up a long gentle slope to attain a place on top from which to attack the objective and moving those 400 yards took me the best part of an hour by having my division creep forwards in a hollow ring of squares supported by guns in the centre and my cavalry brigade behind. I don't know if it was very Napoleonic but it was a new experience.
Replay.

I agree - it was a great fight - although one regiment of cuirassiers less would have been just fine
also well done to all my commanders in the field - some very nice pictures and impressions during the course of this battle! - I only had to annoy Kevin with messages about his constant tactical short comings...

Clearly the failing of the CinC, not ordering support for my left flank. Of course this was the Austrian army so no surprises there.I only had to annoy Kevin with messages about his constant tactical short comings
It was a battle of inches. fought almost entirely uphill. Fortunately the French left their artillery at the objective. Had they moved it to their front lines our squares would have left bathtub rings all over the battlefield. I think this was the first battle where there was such a large difference in cavalry numbers between the two armies. Pepe doesn't like us.
