Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
I should be good for Monday, as long as I do not need to be around the British Sounding chap that claims he hold residence in Austria. He is always gauging my success but which one of MTG's serving wenches I bring him.
No I am not talking about Roland its that chap named Sol.

well I simply thought that a chap living in some tropical paradise, who is used to seeing all those women in tight bikinis, to have better overall taste and not just call any wench a "beauty" ...

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
The Struggle for Arkansas
Background
It is 14.00 hours on 15th April 1862, and the Confederacy is riding high. A S Johnston has just triumphed over Grant at Shiloh.
Here in Arkansas, Earl Van Dorn also defeated a Union army 5 weeks ago at Pea Ridge. Van Dorn was badly wounded in that battle however, and the Rebs were unable to take advantage of their victory in the resulting confusion. But they have continued to recruit and are believed to be preparing to advance into Missouri.
Their army has recently moved into a strategic but rather barren area of NW Arkansas, and they have created a large supply depot on the Kebler Road, NE of Fayetteville (off-map). Ben McCullough's regular Confederate troops protect the depot, and Sterling Price's Missouri State Guard is camped to the SE along the Whigpistle Road.
A smaller, but probably better-equipped, Union force under Frederick Steele is camped somewhere NE of the North Fork River, between Van Dorn's army and the Missouri border.

With all those Union setbacks, Gen. Georgia may need to be sent for.

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
We have 5 registered for Monday's game, which does illustrate the issue we face when designing scenarios.
That's enough for a coop game, but not for teams. But what happens if several more turn up - as they have done for both our previous games?
For the time being I'll work on the basis that the AI will play one side. Which does mean I only need to produce one briefing

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
To be honest I think the way to go is to prepare something for the amount of players that actually signed up - and if more show up - well - they could have signed up in the first place - it's only 2 clicks to do that...
so I fully support your way of handleing this!

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
To play on Monday you will need following 3 mods, in the following order:
- KS Supplementary Maps
- CouriersAndMaps (large or small as appropriate for your PC)
- Additional Flags & Sprites
The latest version (1_47) of Additional Flags & Sprites includes many new uniform sprites for both Union and Confederates. So even if you have used this mod before, you will need to download this version. Here is a link https://www.dropbox.com/s/b7wcp3fwf8cegby/Additional%20ACW%20flags%20%26%20spritesv1_47.zip?dl=0

At the moment this is still looking like a coop game vs the AI. We need a volunteer for CinC, to whom I will send the briefing.

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Quite understand. We appreciate its not especially convenient for a lot of folks, and I have been quite surprised that we've attracted so many.
We really only picked the day because my wife has yoga, and Sean's has netball, so we're allowed to play. You really need to put your foot down..........I tell him

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
We have a CinC. Thanks (again) Roland.
Briefings have gone out to all those who have registered for the game. Please let me know if you don't receive yours.
Can I ask anyone who is planning to play to please download and enable the Additional Flags & Sprites Mod before the game, whether or not you have registered on doodle. The doodle is here btw http://doodle.com/kma4gay82zrcikd2#table

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Congratulations to the team yesterday who defeated a Confederate AI force almost twice their strength, and also destroyed the depot on the Kebler Road. They were assisted by divided rebel command. I built a number of command problems into the scenario in order to hamper and delay the Rebs. One of their 4 divisions never got into action. It looks as if I needn’t have done that!
Crikey (with Pom’s assistance) has been working on a fascinating new mod covering the First Carlist War in Spain in the early 19th C.
See some screenshots and more details here http://www.norbsoftdev.net/forum/modifications/66102-coming-soon-a-savage-and-romantic-war-the-first-carlist-war-1833-1839#66118
Work on the mod is in its final stages, and Crikey has asked whether our group would help road test it for him.
It seems to me that our new regular Monday game sessions would be an ideal opportunity to do that, so look for some scenarios shortly. Best guess is about a month.
This was the first in a succession of Spanish civil wars. Here’s what Wiki says about them:
The Carlist Wars were a series of civil wars that took place in Spain during the 19th century. The contenders fought to establish their claim to the throne, although some political differences also existed. Indeed, several times during the period from 1833 to 1876 the Carlists — followers of Infante Carlos (later Carlos V) and his descendants — rallied to the cry of "God, Country, and King" and fought for the cause of Spanish tradition (Legitimism and Catholicism) against liberalism, and later the republicanism, of the Spanish governments of the day. The Carlist Wars had a strong regional component (Basque region, Catalonia, etc.), given that the new order called into question region specific law arrangements and customs kept for centuries.
When Ferdinand VII of Spain died in 1833, his fourth wife Maria Cristina became Queen Regent on behalf of their infant daughter Isabella II. This splintered the country into two factions known as the Cristinos (or Isabelinos) and the Carlists. The Cristinos were the supporters of the Queen Regent and her government, and were the party of the Liberals. The Carlists were the supporters of Carlos V, a pretender to the throne and brother of the deceased Ferdinand VII, who denied the validity of the Pragmatic Sanction of 1830 that abolished the semi Salic Law (he was born before 1830). They wanted a return to autocratic monarchy.

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
1. You seem surprised at the easy victory yesterday. With Gen. Georgia on the field what outcome did you realistically expect? As predicted, the pickings were mighty slim at the depot. Hardly worth the general making the trip out west. Chasing after the Father General is much more lucrative.
2. Does anyone on this side of the Atlantic understand what all the hubbub in Spain was about? Sibling rivalry writ large? A product of royal inbreeding?

Did we have a CinC in the game yesterday? - not sure really... we had a treasure hunter for sure though
as for the next mod - sounds fairly interesting! - although I half expect this to be peasants vs peasants...
PS: and sombreros of course (or whatever that silly hat is called...)

Yes, he was holding that sword tip pressed into the small of your back. Someone had to keep you from running. While you and your minions were crying for support, the other two divisions were quite able to carry out their primary mission of inventorying the depot without complaint. I never once received a message from them saying, "Help me, help me!"Gen. Siegel wrote:Did we have a CinC in the game yesterday?
