Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
The fates certainly seem to be conspiring against me on the Waterloo front .

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Since all the Elephants seem to be taken: can I just strap a 6lb gun to my back and "act" like an elephant artillery unit?

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Can I suggest we meet up in TS at 19.45 for a prompt 20.00 start.
I will prepare something to play.
Crikey cautions there is *lots* of cavalry in the OOBs. Very exotic, some of it mail-clad with shields! If there’re are enough of us for today’s game, I suggest we have 2 small teams, as otherwise the AI’s lack of ability to form square might make things too easy for the human team.

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Have put together a Sikh War scenario for 2 teams. It will need at least 4 of us however.
It's a bit unusual. I will give verbal briefings to each of the players just before the game.
Martin (J)
If there are fewer than 4, perhaps we can play Napoleonic vs the AI.

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Did they form square in this war? I honestly can't imagine it. Wouldn't the East India Company troops have had rifled muskets by this time?
If we play vs the AI couldn't we play the East India Company army - presumably the Indian infantry never formed square so a lack of it for the AI wouldn't matter.
EDIT: where do we D/L the mod?

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Thanks Roland. Hopefully you have the links now Diggers, but if not let me know.
In answer to your questions re square, my knowledge of the Sikh Wars is slim. The last time I read anything about them was probably 20 years ago.
That said, they did attempt to form a regular army along European lines. Although it did include some irregular elements too. The mod assumes the infantry is organised into battalions, and that all battalions on both sides can form square.
We have enough players for two small teams. I still think this configuration will work best. Will email individual player briefings within the next hour or so. Please do not discuss yours with anyone else, even on the same team. And of course I haven't told you who else is on your team, have I

Ok briefings have all gone. If you have said you are playing, but haven't received anything, please let me know.
We can certainly still fit more in, if anyone fancies elephant frolics. We also have camels, for those who like them.

Game will last until dusk falls....probably in about 2.5 hours.
No pre-game team chat, due to the situation. All communication will be by courier once we are in the game.

Tonight's game
Hi Guys,
Sorry, I can't join you tonight. Sounds like it should be a good game and I look forward to seeing the post game pictures of Diggers with an Elephant! Hope to be able to take part on Friday. Also my first foray into SWWL!
Enjoy all
Blessings
Phill
aka
Baldrick
(in case you are wondering, it was a nickname given me by old CO when I was in the TA back in the "Cold War".
Imagine the scene. Cold, wind swept night in coy. HQ with maps and radios set out.
it was something like...
Col. "Do you know where they (one of the platoons) are Pugh?" said in menacing tones and gesticulating at the map board. (He had been boxing champion of the Regiment when a junior officer and had fists to match.)
Me "Not exactly Sir" said in defensive tone whilst looking at map and trying to read last grid ref given and wishing had neater handwriting.
Col "******* hell Pugh your as useless as that ****** Baldrick. Pass me the ****** whiskey." (I may have changed some of the wording slightly!)
Me "Yes Sir.
Things improved later!
Fantastic OC
Some things stick.

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
Hope you can make it on Friday, Balders. I'm planning to play then too, and like you have little experience of the new Waterloo engine.
Perhaps a wee dram of your CO's ****** whiskey will steady our nerves?

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
whenever I see that name I can only think of the infamous: "If you have two beans and add two more beans - how many do you have"? scene... it is simply one of the best out there...

The question is "if you have two beans and add two more beans, what do you have?"
"Some beans? ... Ahh ... A very small stew?"

I don't know but I feel like Baldrick would use the common English word rather than the upper-class imported French word!

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
that was never my intended target, Mr Digby
Blackadder is simply my own personal favourite EVER when it comes to Comedy - I don't think even series like Fawlty Towers or Yes, Minister reach it!

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
I agree, its my favourite set of TV series as well (except the first one which was pretty lame). Rowan Atkinson is a comic genius. He can be hilarious by doing absolutely nothing but wear a serious look on his face. Add in Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Tony Robinson and Tim McInnery and magic happens.

Yikes! I agree with every word of that Diggers. A most worrying development. I'm now going to lie down.

Re: Regular Monday SOW HITS games
indeed - too much agreement going on as of late - I smell something fishy... and I am not talking about Baldrick's apple crumble....
on a side note - a few friends of ours live right next to Tim McInnery and when I was over for a visit I just bumped into him while he took out his dog for a walk... quite a nice, regular chap...
