USMC is based at Phu Bai and commanded by Brigadier General Foster LaHue who has the following units under his command and is instructed to aid General Truong as best he can to repeal the NVA attacks.

The Marines can only be activated on the 31st January and then only a maximum of 2 companies per day can be released from Phu Bai as they were spread in a wide area around Phu Bai and not available immediately. Trucks are available to transport the Marines via Road. Further reinforcements might be possible.

US Cavalry is based at Camp Evans and commanded by Colonel Campbell (You choose if Cheatham is there as commander?). These forces have only just arrived in the area and are low on supplies and will take time to be available for action.

It is expected that the following forces will be available from the 5th February.
There might be more available after this date.

In Hue there is effectively a company of various military advisors based at the MACV compound. These will only defend and can not be used to attack or be commanded by any of the above commanders.

The Route One is the main supply line to the City and is constantly in use with truck conveys taking supplies to the various bases. The Tet offensive saw numerous bridges blown along the length of Route 1 and this caused serious supply issues in the early stages of the offensive.  For the game to be able to attack a Battalion will need 1 supply token for each turn of attack. The initial level of supplies is as follows: -

1. Hue at MACV Compound 4 Tokens
2. Hue at Airfield 2 Tokens
3. Hue at Mang Ca Compound 4 Tokens
4. Phu Bai 12 Tokens
5. PK17 8 Tokens
6. Camp Evans 8 Tokens

7. Each ARVN battalion carries 1 token with them.

Once a token has been issued to a battalion it can not be put back into supply. The maximum a battalion can carry is three days of supply.

The following types of orders can be given to your forces (lowest level is company).

Watch / Defend = No move and a bonus to attack if enemy move in range and are surprised.

Move / Assault = Specify where they are to move to or what target to attack.

Dig in = Will fortify an area and give bonus to defending troops.

Patrol = Troops will patrol the area around where they are based in an attempt to spot enemy troops. This effectively expands the area of control but no attacking allowed as forces are spread thin.

As soon as I get orders from the PAVN / NVA I can get this started as the Americans can not do much until some one breaks the Cease Fire for the holiday.....

The latest from Jonathan and Sean is that by Sunday they will have orders to me. If that is beyond my bed time as I am ahead of you they will not get processed until Tuesday PM UK time at the earliest.

So I hope to have something for you to work with by Tuesday unless I get orders sooner....

Hi Mark,

What Mark F. was asking is what date does the action start in game terms. You posted that the US has a restriction in when units can move, we want to know what calendar date the game will start on.

Sorry missed that all together. You will start to get reports on the 1st Feb game time.

Once I send you the 1st update then you are in, as you will have info to respond to....

Bear in mind that things might not be exactly like the real situation and the NVA might throw some curve balls...

Joint US Briefing Empty Map Scale

Post  atn8396 Tue Sep 24, 2013 2:54 pm

Mark, we have an additional question for you. On the Hue Area Map Compressed what is the map scale? I am not sure how to read that on any of the maps.

Alex

I presume that one of you is at Phu Bai (Mark) and Alex is stationed at Camp Evans?
