More Russian military topographical maps Empty More Russian military topographical maps

Post  King_Rufus Tue Feb 17, 2009 12:32 pm

At the weekend I came across a whole bunch of Russian military topographical maps, of many countries as well as Russia, which you may be interested in. They are at Topomaps.

Have only looked at a couple so far [Crimea area], and not sure when they are dated. However they seem eminently usable for Kriegsspiel purposes save that the Cyrillic settlement names would need to be labeled over with English ones. Latter is probably not too difficult as Russian is a phonetic language

I took a quick peek at some of the 1:100k maps around Moscow, and those are dated 1982.

More Russian military topographical maps Empty Maps of Russia + eastern_Europe with latinised legends

Post  King_Rufus Mon Jan 30, 2012 12:23 pm

On the subject of maps of Russia + eastern_Europe, have now found some WITH LATINISED LEGENDS, at http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/eastern_europe/ which gets around the Cyrillic problem. Perhaps compiled by NATO intelligence, since the ones I have looked at seem to have a Cold War vintage. Most suited to KS are the Caucasian ones it might seem. Perhaps the Ghazi will see action again!

Gosh these are good. Thanks.

They're a lot like the ones in 'Caucasian Battlefields' only more detailed. Perhaps with the addition of a bit of colouring of the hilltop contours to make them stand-out?

Could we add the link to the website as a permanent resource, Mark?
