I'm a brand new user of both SowWL and the KS mod. I downloaded and installed what appeared to be the latest files needed for the KS mod. I adjusted the options settings as closely to the recommended settings as the game would allow me.
Whenever I start to play and try to adjust the Brigade's formation, the games crashes to desktop. I also have the compatibility set to Win7 and the game set to run by Administrator.
Attached is the log file as a spoiler, as I didn't see a way to actually attach a file.
Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

You may have the mod inside a mod problem. Open the KS Napoleon Mod folder. Is there another folder inside with exactly the same name? If so, then you have to remove the inner folder from the outer one and delete the outer one. Do that for the other two parts of the mod, i.e. the Supplemental Maps and KS Sprites if necessary.

In addition, you must disable the Les Cent-Jours mod. It is not compatible. Also it is very unlikely you'll be able to play any of the DLC or stock scenarios.

Thank you, Uncle Billy.

I no longer have the double folder problem; that had initially kept me from using the KS mod at all.

Apparently I got confused between different SowWL forums.  I downloaded the Les Cent-Jours mod thinking it was compatible.  As well, I didn't even realize the scenario I was trying to play was from that mod.

I'll try an compatible scenario and let you know if I have any further problems.

Speaking of Les Cent Jours, I noticed that in the new SG 1.65 there is a Nap_France_La Souffel.jpg file but I can't seem to find any of the supporting files for it.

Is that a work-in-progress or something?

We tried out the map on a couple of occasions.  It's a very nice map with interesting possibilities but it has some errors in it.  No one has yet gotten around to fixing those.  Just one of those things.  If you want to use the map, just go to the Les Cent-Jours Mod and rename all the folders EXCEPT Maps and Sounds.  I just place a character in front of the name of each folder.  See the picture below.

So..... the extra character prevents the game from reading that particular file and it defaults to the KS Mod?

You have to rename the ini file in the Maps folder of Les Cent-Jours mod to Nap_France_LaSouffel.ini.

That worked and the game loaded and promptly crashed with a runtime error, which is what I remember happening when LCJ first came out and I couldn't get it to work then, either.

Oh well. It is a nice looking map, though.

The name tags won't matter.  Likely it is the missing fort designations.  The KS mod doesn't use them.  Try replacing the csv files in Les Cent_Jours Maps folder with these: La Souffel CSV files

That seems to have done the trick. At the very least the game has progressed to the point where I deployed Claparede's division to defend the bridge and the Russian column has come into sight. That has never happened before.

I also got a chance to scout out the map a bit and found that a lot of the other bridges had been destroyed. I'm going to hazard a guess that the "Bridges" map has them restored?


I wish the game had a better error messaging routine. In Rome Total War there was a switch that could be used called -show err which told the modder exactly what line he had screwed up! That made things easy.

Again, you're the man with the answers.

Sadly, I'm still crashing to the desktop.
I removed the folder for the mod that was causing problems previously. I put it, renamed, in the main directory where it shouldn't cause any problems, I would think.
When I crash, I get the same message, which I really need to write down. I keep trying to take a screenshot, but it seems I don't have any buttons that work. Each time it crashes, I'm given an option to Abort, Retry or Ignore. It seems that no matter which I select, it still crashes to desktop.
The log is long and attached as a spoiler again so it doesn't clutter things up too much. I would've appended it as rscilla did his, but last time, the problem was found near the very beginning.
Thanks for any help. I really would like to be able to play an entire battle, just to see how poorly I do. A military genius, I am not.

It looks like you played the game for 22 minutes, stopped it and then tried to resume it later. Those early scenarios can't be restarted. They were meant to be played straight through. Sorry.

'Tis somewhat strange. I didn't stop the game per se, as in do a save and then load the save and start again. What I did was bring the menu up so I could pause the game to fix dinner and then went back to it and continued where I left off. Would that do it?
One thing I didn't say about the error, because I'm only guessing, is that it seems to happen when I mistakenly double click (not sure right or left) instead of a single click. It that a possibility?

According to the log, the game engine crashed. I've never paused the game for a long period of time, only for a few minutes. It looks as if the game unloaded from memory and then tried to reload itself when you came back to continue playing. I guess you shouldn't do that in the future.

Possibly during the longer period pause, some energy saving feature of Windows could trigger and cause game to unload from the memory...

If you're just playing single player it's possible to fast forward the time scale, so you could more quickly get through the marching and any slow spots.

Also, we occasionally stop our Multiplayer games due to a crash or another person joining or something, and then we resume it again right where we left off.  So it's possible to save a battle and resume it later as we have done many times.  Though as I'm not the host of our games I don't actually know how to do this Sad it's just part of the magic that Uncle Billy does behind the scenes that I take for granted.

Normally when I get a level error it is because one file or other is missing.

However, here:

If I can just piggy back on this thread rather than starting a new one... (might not be a bad idea to have a pinned thread for bugs/issues somewhere?).  So I went poking around to try and fix my recording problem, which I think I solved, but I encountered a strange issue while I was troubleshooting.  I went to host a multiplayer game just to test and it gave me the error telling me I had an extra instance of a mod file running: unitglobal.csv.  I thought this was odd, that perhaps I copied a file into a folder I shouldn't have or something.  I did a file search and found only one unitglobal.csv.  Weird.  Must be somewhere I'm not looking.  Disabled the three KS mods, hosted a multiplayer lobby no problem.  I decided that instead of searching for a potential needle in a hay stack I just redownloaded the mod files fresh and installed them.  I got the extra unitglobal.csv error again even off the fresh install of the three files.  I've hosted multiplayer lobby before and didn't get this issue, and I've only got those three mod files enabled.  I don't understand what I'm missing if a completely fresh install of the mod gives me that error, but the vanilla game doesn't.

Also please don't forget to address rschilla's post above mine Smile I don't want to bury it.
