Nieman River Battle of 1812 Sunday 21st Feb at 130 EST or doodle poll popular time.
Doddle Poll
Sundays Battle is at 1330 EST time Feb 21st.
The French (top side of map) are on the move to invade Russia (Bottom side of the map). Two leading elements of each Army are moving ahead of the main Army for each country. Each Commander has been ordered to control the only available river crossings and hold for their counterparts to arrive. This is a 2 hour battle.
Each CinC will get a separate brief. Please advise if you would like to be a CinC and PM with you email and I will send you the briefing.
There are 4 tactical Objectives in this battle.
(Maybe if our CinC(s) step up earlier we can spend more time fighting then planning.)
Special Rules: There are only two fordable river crossings and they are marked on the map with stars, these are the only way you can cross over the river. The river is swollen from a torrential amount of rain from a late spring storm. You cross you drown. Exception: If you troops AI themselves to retreat into the river the CMDR must move them back to the friendly side of the river and then they can go back into battle.

Looks good Mike. Welcome to the fun world of scenario design. I shall be there. This Spain map should feel a lot like western Russia in the heat of summer

I think the time in the Doodle's description is an hour off.
130 EST/1930 GMT should be changed to 130 EST/1830 GMT.
It fits south-western Russia more than the area around the river Niemen even in the driest of summers. Sharpe was filmed in Crimea, for example. Regardless, having played on this map, I can say that it's a lot fun and Mike made a good choice.

Morsey,
I will volunteer to be a Russian player. Even though I am not the CinC, would it be possible to PM me the Russian situation so that I may ponder it ahead of time?
Thanks for setting this up.

Yeah, but EST is short for Eastern Standard Time (5 hours behind GMT). Your time zone is CST - Central Time Zone (6 hours behind GMT). I think you might've mixed those two up. Or maybe I'm becoming slow myself
Are the choices in the doodle poll given in your time zone?

I'm happy to take the Russian CinC position so long as the army is well appointed with guns.

FRAG ORDERS!!!
The CinC (s) SITREP packs are ready.
The Brave MTG aka Kevin aka spoon-man aka the scourge of all milkmaids has taken the Russian CinC
The revengeful Charmead aka Fly Boy aka Kevin's continuous supply of silver and other trinkets or Just "PAT" has volunterred to be French Cinc. This should be a revenge match right out of annuals of the WWF
GOOD LUCK and THANKS!!
VIC conditions Hold both river crossings and a hilltop.=Outright Victory
One Hilltop and crossing each a draw
Team that inflicts the most casualties receives 1 point.
Each OBJis worth 1 point.
Good Luck!
Pregame planning will be only 15 minutes and nothing more. Please be on time and Modded up. Be prepared to Ruck up and move out in a professional military fashion. The French have eaten their 5 hour dinner already so they are ready to.
I need 2 volunteers, what do you have to lose, get slaughtered and have Digby politely remind you that you are back in true form? He only does that to me along with sidekick spoon man.
Please observe 20 seconds into this hilarious clip from one of my Grandson favorite movie or the whole things if you need a chuckle.

Mike
I was looking for the "Doodle Poll" and was horribly confused, saddened and desperate when I could not see it. I thought to myself how I was about to be deprived of the collegial and powerful weekly gaming experience afforded by the KS forum community, now full of exciting news of streamlined games and campaigns. And then I saw this "Doddle Poll" and realized that yes, THIS is the link that would be created by a former grunt police guy. Sure enough, there it was.
I will volunteer for French CInC if not already taken. If Kevin wants my flatware he is going to have to fight through my lines rather than daintily cantering on his horse behind my staff and baggage trains. If that position is taken then I will join either side. At least Russians don't use utensils so I don't have to worry about theft.
So we are talking 1330 EST for sure? Not 1330 banana time?

Doesn't that mean "tank of the beer"?
So Kevin is Russkie C-in-C and Pat is French. Its a difficult choice.
Are there any Spanish in this battle?

Pat 130pm EST time not banana republic time looks about right at this point unless new joiners dictate another time.
Digby we can make a small Spanish DIV if you can fit it into the OOB we can call it Division le Huir

I shall have that flatware sir. Whether it is at the end of some Cossack's pointy stick or from a simple bribe to your chief of supply train, I'll have those spoons. If Kevin wants my flatware he is going to have to fight through my lines rather than daintily cantering on his horse behind my staff and baggage trains.

Correct Martin. Tank of the Beer is part of my subtle intimidation campaign ... The image of a horribly slow multi cannoned beast will strike fear into Russians.

I will post the French strategy here because of how confident I am of easy victory
As I noted earlier, all Russians other than Kevin have no concept of fine flatware, silver and other precious metals. Slabs of beet and pointed sticks, on the other hand, are pretty powerful attractors.
We French will build a 3rd bridge out of paper mache (we only use material that sound French) and place huge piles of meat and sticks on the other side. Those Russians that do not die trying to cross on the paper mache bridge when it collapsed will die trying to swim the river. Game over. Kevin you make it too easy

The shallow posturing of both C-in-Cs fills me with unease. I still can't decide who I scorn the least.
Are you sure there's no Spanish command vacant for me Mike? Like maybe a bar on the Costa del Sol?

Just to make sure ... Mod 118, Maps 112 and Sprite 102 correct? And you are using the regular OOB and not a modified one

Great scenario Mike, very nicely balanced and of course a good map. The French were the most stylish and aggressive of course and risked all to try for three objectives while those fat lazy Russians just sat there and contented themselves with one objective. So although it ended 2 - 2 I think the French win on style points.
But great game and a ridiculously intense battle for me south of the east bridge.

Yes, very fun scenario. I have a completely different perspective from the south side of the west bridge. We (the Russians) allowed the French to slowly cross and then counterattacked against an isolated French Div with two Russian Divisions. Hence the high French losses. We were well on the way to retaking the west bridge when the game crashed. I would say a 3-2 victory for the Russians, based on us ultimately retaking the west bridge. Draw at worst.

Re: Nieman River Battle of 1812 Sunday 21st Feb at 130 EST or doodle poll popular time.
We had 2 division plus an attached brigade (Mann) on that west bridge. Taff's job was to bust their bridge, joe to follow up .. they had to be across bridge in force no later than 915. Meanwhile We were going to pull Martin away from east bridge and maybe sucker Russians across in pursuit while my cavalry waited in ambush for the reckless Russians.
At the outset I checked out the west bridge and it looked good for Taff/Jeff. Then I rode to east side and hung out with Martin as his batteries knocked Cossacks off their horses. I got back to the west side and the battle was starting to rage.
But by 0910 I changed approaches Taff was across the bridge and joe moving in support and Mann coming down road from east to west to support joe. I galloped to left side of the line (saw a sneaky Russian division moving parallel to the river to hit Taff/Joe) and sent word ahead to Martin to get ready to assault. He went across by 0930, like a big parade. About that time was when Joe dropped. I was way away from his troops. Sent an "all out attack order" to his brigade commands and stuck with Martin. Seeing Martins infantry move across that bridge in column of divisions was awesome! He pressed south a bit to secure perimeter and I took the corps cavalry to the hill on the SE of the bridge. The view was awesome! Intense fight too!
