Is there a way to change scenario length without recreating the scenario using the editor? In which file is this?

Thanks!

It is in two files. The start time is in scenario.ini, (starttime=). It's in the [init] section. The end time is in battlescript.csv, (Column A).

Thanks Kevin.

For everyone, here is the new maps download file.   Place the files in this .zip into:

Thanks Matt

When you save the file, make sure you do not write the color space information, (you only want the grayscale values)
So, Kevin, I just save the file as a greyscale bitmap?

Yes, maps are just maps and not scenario- or play-mode specific.

You need the KS Supplemental Maps Mod and the three files in this zip file go inside the 'maps' folder of that mod. Run the KS Supplemental Maps Mod above KS Napoleon Mod.

Yes. If the program that you are using gives the option to write the color information into the file, uncheck that. With gimp, it is an option when exporting the file.

Hm, you may be onto something here as I can't get the map to show in my map list either.

Can anyone else test this please?

I recommend changing the mapname= in the ini file to Shevardino.  Otherwise we end up with 2 maps with the same name, i.e. Poland RandomMaps6L_1.  I don't think this will be a problem for the MP game today, but may be confusing in the future.

Hm, you may be onto something here as I can't get the map to show in my map list either.
See above. It will show as Poland RandomMaps6L_1 and will be near the bottom of the list.

Do we have CinCs for this battle? I volunteered for the French side, but will happily step aside if someone else wants the power and glory.

But should it be called Poland RandomMaps6L_1 or Shevardino? We don't want two map names the same.

It is now. I had to change the mapname= in the ini file as Kevin suggested.

I think the redoubt model is going to cause problems. I found that the breastworks sprites need to be much thicker/deeper than you would expect so that the gun limber sprite can sit within it (its the limber sprite that gives the gun its cover bonus) and the gun model itself doesn't poke too far out the front of the breastworks. Remember infantry are going to have to be lined up around the guns too.

The redoubt also has a really terrible field of fire - is this intentional? It seems to be 'just' on a back slope of a low hill and I have a concern that guns inside it won't see to the N very well.

Here is a new map file zip.   Everyone should download and use these as a few other changes were made in addition to renaming the map in the .ini file.

Digby, the redoubt is fine and artillery within the redoubt can see fine in my test playings. ALL of the ground within the enclosed area is "breastwork" and gets the benefit. The graphic merely highlights the boundaries.

Looked again and just in case Digby is right i moved the redoubt forward a bit so that more of it is on the crest. So please download the files again. Sorry about the confusion, first time designers woes!!!

Hey Kevin - i noticed in one of the map.ini files that there are settings for sunset. I'm not sure how these work but is it possible to make the sun start to set at a certain time in the battle? Just wondering how this works and what effect it has.

Very good scenario, Matt. Certainly lived up to its advance billing as a bloodbath. I was down to my last 700 from a division of 5300 -- but I still couldn't out-Soldier Soldier, for getting a perfectly fine division destroyed!  Shocked  Still, the French took the Redoubt at the end, so all's well, I suppose!?

Terrible performance by me. I got killed trying to get a battalion out of melee with cavalry right when Digby dropped. When I got back to the front, at least 5 of my battalions had been crushed by the Russian cavalry.

Ugly.

Hats off to Matt for designing this great scenario, it was a pity that you and Martin dropped.

Matt wrote:the Russians were operating with a commander in name only, i think it would be interesting to have a newer player take the Russian C-in-C role

I hope that Taff enjoyed the experience and he will join us again to take a small command, maybe it was not very fair to him in his first day with us. Hats off to you as well Taff for taking the bull by the horns.

I think we Russian generals played each our own battle, 2 divisions on the right and 2 on the left, and we left the center very thinly held.
I had my heavy cavalry division behind the redoubt but was watching our left flank, Then Niall/Hays asked me for a couple of squadrons on his right. When I got to the redoubt I saw 2 battalions of frenchies already at Sheverino town coming to the redoubt.

I had a cavalry division and couldn't stop them because Mark/Soldier was with them getting into square when my horsemen approached, he got there and did some damage to our guns before we could dislodge him from there and retake Sheverino town. It seemed that Grog had rallied his men around the town and the French in our right (east) where not strong enough to keep pushing as they had light cavalry and mine was heavy.

Then I turned to the west and the same story, Ron was rushing a battalion to the redoubt, and once there he got rid of all our guns. I couldn't charge him on that terrain, so I started to switch squadrons to support our left under heavy pressure by now. I think I helped them somehow, and when French cuirassiers appeared from the west I pulled back to the ridge behind the redoubt to face them. I think I had more squadrons (and very good quality level 8-Guard) so defeated French heavy cavalry but by then their guns to the west, their light cavalry coming from the east and even their infantry advancing and forming into square routed 4 squadrons in just a few moments before the battle end.

Congratulations to the French commanders for taking the Shevardino Redoubt and to the Russian generals for fighting their divisions so well.

Figures tell everything:

             Men       Casualties  Left
French    35634      19522       5717
Russian  26656       16036      1190

GeneralLiutenant Knorring.
