Hello, introducing myself.
Hello there,
I am 26 years old and i am from Holland
Recently i started to play Sow Gettysburg and i was really impressed with the game specially when i discovered the HITS and courier system.
I have been searching for the best way to play MP and after doing some reading on the forums i decided that the KS way of playing suits me best.
I like history and war-games and i am interested in joining your community not only for the Sow MP but also for the rest of the war simulations that you guys handle.
I have checked the settings needed for MP and downloaded the MODS except for the Napoleonic era MOD since i am still learning to master the original.
I would like to join a game whenever i may so i await your response.
Greetings.

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Hi Fidel and welcome to the group!
With the cold seasons starting, I'm sure we will see more regular HITS games happening soon again. I suggest you join one of the smaller adhoc coop games first, to see you are all set and comfortable with HITS, before playing a large MP game. Check the Arranged Games section or post a desired game time there yourself.
Oh, and its nice to see another guy from the same time zone

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Well thank you for the warm welcome,
I usually work the weekends untill late so i wont be making it for this battle i believe.
Hope there will be some game during the week as well.
The SP ive been playing on plrradyus:2(insted of 10) since i read your settings so i am getting used to it.
I would like to play an adhoc game to see how it all goes with entering a server and actually starting a battle as i have not managed to do that.
Should i post in the arranged games section to see if somebody would like to "school me" a little bit?
BTW:those von reisswitz kriegsspiel that you guys play face to face seem really awsome, i wonder if i can find someone in Holland that plays them or is willing to.
Greetings to all.

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Hi Fidel,
I'm sure we could get a game together one of these evenings - I know Martin was expressing interest in getting some mid-week games going, which may well be my best avenue as well. Perhaps this Thursday night at 1900-1930, if that works for you? Or perhaps next week?
For just starting out I would recommend no more than 2-4 players; happily that is usually the amount we manage to pull together for an ad hoc game

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Hi Khryses,
I believe Thursday would work just fine for me, next week i am moving into our new home so i will have some busy days and wont be able to join in.
Should i log on to the TS server at around 18:30?
Glad to see there is interest in week-day games as well!
Greetings, Fidel.

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
18:30 your time, being 19:30 mine/ours?
Sounds like a plan!
I don't have the newest map/expansion so unless we have another player joining us who is happy to/able to host I'll set us up on one of the more general maps.
A few Qs before the day:
Which expansions do you have?
Have you set up all the mods at the link given?
How large a command do you usually use? Brigade? Division?

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Well i am in the Berlin timeline, i am guessing you are in the UK so i am one hour ahead.
So if i log in at 19:30 it would be 18:30 for you(but 20:30 for me and 19:30 for you is also good).
Scourge of war:Gettysburg is how i am playing without expansions as i want to go through all scenarios with time and reading about them as i play on.
I have downloaded all the mods needed(couriers and maps, restricted areas mod) made the changes in the options menu and in the Sow files but i should only use the restricted areas mod if specified by the host right?
I have played some scenarios where i commanded divisions or brigades and always playing HITS and couriers, at the moment i feel more confortable commanding a brigade.

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Ah right, I got the 1-hour difference back to front.
My 18:30 to your 19:30 works well
Brigade is fine, no expansions and we can use core maps.
Would you prefer to play co-op, or one brigade a side across the map?

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
I could join a game on Thursday at 18:30 UK time. Perhaps we can arrange this in the arranged games forum.

Welcome Fidel87
I would like to make tonight but my wife has hijacked my PC for her study:x
A new Laptop purchase is now looking like a sound investment. I wonder if they do them in pink or polker dot. Anything to prise her away from my rig
Have a good game, chaps

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Unfortunately there were problems with getting a game going that neither Fidel, I, or eventually Hays could resolve.
We determined the problem is probably connected to Fidel's router setup; as he is moving next week, we left matters there and will see what happens when he is resettled.

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
Did the person hosting have his router port open? I have noticed that with it closed, many people in Europe can't join an MP game.

Anything's possible, but Hays and I both tried hosting.
As far as I was able to check, my router port was open and I know Hays has hosted games before...

Re: Hello, introducing myself.
The best way to know whether the port is open is to download the utility Pfportforward: Link Is Here It's free
Then type in the port you want to check which is 31791 and click the UDP radio button. Since the port is tied to your local IP address, (192.168.1.some_number) you can have a case where it is open one day and not the next. The router assigns this address every time you turn on your computer. If the router is turned off for some reason, you can almost be guaranteed that the address will change. The only way to stop this is to go into the router setup and manually assign your computer a static local IP address, something like 192.168.1.11. That's what I do. Otherwise you have to check each time you want to host. If the port is closed, you have to go into the router and open it for your new address.
You can also set a static IP address from the windows network connections setup. Here is a link that shows the steps for various flavors of windows: Static IP Via Windows This will do the same thing. It may be the easiest way to do this if the router setup utility is not easy to decipher/navigate.
