I'm available for a game on Saturday at the usual time, 1930 or 2030 BST.  I'd like to continue testing the new skirmisher changes.  I'll put up a link here for the latest test version of the KS Napoleon Mod this evening.

The link for the test mod version is : KS NApoleon Mod 1.616

I can make that. Can we test the new GUI as well?

How did your test with Martin go in the week WRT town blocks?

Yes, the new GUI will be part of the download.  After fighting a couple of battles around the town blocks, the other Martin is now a staunch proponent of them.  You'll be hard pressed to find anyone more pro-block.  cheers

The test version link is in the 1st post.

I must confess I’m still a bit conflicted on this one.  I found the thing worked somewhat better visually than I’d feared, and it was quite fun playing a few battles to winkle-out Uncle Billy’s defenders.

Once you look at the treatment in detail though, it’s rather artificial.  Because of game engine limitations, farms & villages cannot be defended in a historical manner, which then means they cannot be attacked in a historical manner.  For example defenders need to be driven-out by fire, rather than the bayonet, which means the attackers may suffer fewer casualties than the defenders.  I struggle with this.  A bit.

The above may be too negative.  It was still fun, and some of my objections have less force in a scenario situation, where the situation can by tailored to the typography and where some scripting can be applied.  I could see it being of some use in the Peninsular campaign for example.  So overall I think it’s ok, if used sparingly.  I think the artificiality would grate if I encountered it too often.  It’s all a personal thing though, and I know Diggers feels differently.

On a more positive note, we also used Kevin’s revised skirmishers, and I thought these changes worked very well.
