Hi from Yorkshire
Hi all
I'm really keen to have a go at this, is there any players up north?
I live in Rotherham but I'm willing to travel.
Thanks
John Paul

Re: Hi from Yorkshire
Hello John Paul
Welcome
I'm from Hull but live in Nottingham. I presume you are referring to the kriegsspiel group games? Of which I have not yet taken part but would be interested at some point in the future. They sound like a lot of fun.
Much of the activity on this forum is in relation to our online gaming using Scourge of war Gettysburg and its expansions. Recently we have been playing a napolionic mod.
We play at ground level and send our orders and communications via courier. Very immersive.
Anyway, let us know your interest and someone will gladly help you out.It

Hi from me too John Paul
Grog is correct, and you would be very welcome to join us for either type of game. If you would like to try our kriegsspiel group games, they are held in Hertfordshire, which is a bit of a trek from Rotherham, but probably doable. And you did say you are willing to travel
The next one is on Sunday 8th September. Here is our full autumn schedule. Follow the forum links for more information re the games, and use the doodle link to sign up if you're interested.:
•Sunday 8th September : The return of the Zombies!

•Sunday 20th October : Shiloh: Bloody April
Players will take on the role of divisional and corps commanders from the Union Army of the Tennessee and the Confederate Army of the Mississippi.

•Sunday 17th November: English Civil War campaign c1643/4.
Players will be army commanders for King or Parliament in various parts of the country, each with specific regional responsibilities. Each 'turn' will represent perhaps a week.

Re: Hi from Yorkshire
If anyone has to travel a very long way from the north they are always welcome to stop over at my place for the night and use my spare room (either the night before, the night after or both). I'm between Warwick and Banbury, about 90 minutes drive from the usual venue in Herts.
Also welcome!

Re: Hi from Yorkshire
Many of our place names are from old English - that's Saxon, or from Danish or Viking/old Norwegian. Some are French as well, depending if they were manors given to Norman knights "for services rendered" after 1066. The different variation on names gives an idea of which invader temporarily had control at the time
The study of British place names is fascinating.

Re: Hi from Yorkshire
I'm as open minded as the next but Bishop's Itchington doesn't sound like something to discuss in polite circles.

He he.
Wetwang, in Yorkshire is a favourite of mine.
I remember driving through Austria and coming across a village whose pronunciation was Vank but spelled differently, of course ;-)
