Wednesday 30th January (today) G/burg game?
Short notice I know, but if anyone's interested in a game tonight I can play. I can also host if required.
Suggest starting at 19.00 or 20.00 UK time.

Hi Ollie. You do seem to be having problems. Who are you with?FlashmanKBE wrote:Hi Martin - normally I'd sign up, but unfortunately my internet woes have returned!!!
We've got the Virgin engineer here as I type this. Although that's to do with the phone line. Thankfully the internet's fine nowdays.

I'm with the Post Office, who I would say do seem to be trying their hardest. However, BT owns all the hardware, and so they're largely responsible for isolating the problem. The interface between the ISP and BT seems to be the poor bit. The results of a BT test bounce around and then I have to get on the ISPs case again.
It sounds like now BT have taken the matter on themselves ("escalated it"), so I'm hopeful. They also say they've found the fault (which is a mystery, because the last BT engineer to come to the house said he couldn't!!!)

Thanks Sven.
I've not been around much as my dad was injured in a car accident on Xmas eve, and has required a lot of support since then.
Luckily he seems to be making a good recovery, and thankfully no-one else was hurt.

Looks like 20.00 hrs for me now. Hope that's not too late for you. Happy to play just the 2 of us vs AI if no-one else shows up.

Sorry to hear about your father's accident, Martin, and glad to hear he's making a good recovery. I hope he continues to do so.
Couldn't make tonight but hope to see you on a battlefield soon.

Re: Wednesday 30th January (today) G/burg game?
Thanks Jeff.
3 of us had a good game last night as Rebs vs the Union AI on the Antietam map. Sven's large division advanced S towards Sharpsburg and had a stiff fight around Dunker Church. He did well in the centre, and then Flashman expertly brought my division up against their right and Semmes' AI division against their left.
This caused the enemy to fall back in disarray. We pursued through the town, this time with me leading the advance. I ran up against fresh Union troops just SW of the town. My guys were prety tired by this time, and had a hard time of it until reinforcements came up. We had great fun complaining about the absence of Hood, whose division had gone walkabout. We eventually forced this enemy force to retire, and then found yet more fresh Union troops further to the SW.
At this point we decided to call the game, as we had been playing for over 3 hours and it was getting late. Good stuff.

Re: Wednesday 30th January (today) G/burg game?
Yes, thanks for the great game Martin, and Sven. It is a shame you dropped Sven, but you'd done a good deal of damage to the Yankees before you did.
I really enjoyed commanding the Corps, which included 2 AI-controlled divisions, a very large mixed division controlled by Semmes, and a small, infantry-only division controlled by Hood. I found I was able to control these two extra divisions reasonably well, with the exception of Hood, who once I gave the order to attack seemed to become rather confused. I think in fairness his division had managed to get split up, and he struggled to get it back together.
Also, I clearly rushed the advance, and there was ample opportunity to rest if we'd wanted, but yes, we'd been playing all evening, and I think we'd made the point.
Martin, you seemed quite comfortable commanding your division, so I would highly recommend that you join the next HITS/GCM game organised by WJPalmer. Keep your eyes peeled, but usually he runs one every Saturday starting at 8pm GMT. I'd be happy to walk you through setup and so on if you're interested, but basically it's just like the game we played last night, but with about 15 players, including brigade, division, corps and army human players (as well as a whole lot of crazy AI brigade commanders!), but organised into 2 teams, which is rather more satisfying (and a whole lot harder) than playing against the AI. So you could command a division of 2 or 3 AI-lead brigades (with or without arty, as you prefer), or one containing 4 brigades, one of whom is led by a human! Hays (Niall) plays quite regularly. If you enjoyed yesterday evening's sport, you will really enjoy HG!

Yes I'm looking forward to playing a HITS/GCM game soon. Not sure whether I can make Saturday, but I will probably take you up on your kind offer to to walk me through setup before I do.
