Avoiding crashes - whisper keys
It seems that having a TS whisper list bound to a key that also has a SOW function is not good and will cause crashes. Thanks to Sven (I think?, or was it Mark? ) who pointed this out last night.
I expect many of us have keys like this.
Having been playing with my keyboard.csv file recently, this should be fairly easy to resolve.
You can either leave your keyboard file as is, and make sure you don't use any bound keys when assigning keys in TS
OR
You should be able to get rid of keys from your SoW keyboard file if you don't use them in SoW and you want to use them in TS. @Digby, for example, if you don't use the Numpad keys in SoW, I think you should just delete all those lines from your keyboard.csv file and then you'll be able to use them safely in TS.
I'm going to play around and see what I can come up with that suits me.

Good advice. I'll get right on it and remove the SoW numpad key commands.

Re: Avoiding crashes - whisper keys
I've been tweaking my keys and have just played a game with the following. I forgot to write them down first, so didn't test them all, but the ones I tried worked.
This leaves all the top row number keys and Num Pad 1 through 6 unattached and therefore available for Teamspeak Whisper Keys.
New Keys (many from GCM)
B - Stand up
C – Courier
E – Rotate right
F – Follow
G – Go to Me
H - Use roads
I – Team Chat
J - Short Retreat
K – Stats
L - Lie down
M – Map
N – Command Map
O – Ignore the enemy
P – Pause
Q - Rotate left
R – All run
S – Use solid shot
T – Toggle Trees
U – Toggle HUD
V - Wheel all the way around (this is like clicking "Wheel right" 16 times)
W – All Walk
X – Chat
Y – Fire at the troops
Z – Zoom

Re: Avoiding crashes - whisper keys
Thanks for posting that Jeff. A couple of problems with using the top row of numbers are that you often use these in messages, if you're giving team-mates infornmation re troop numbers or specific regiments.
I also find that '7' on the top row sends the current regiment forward to the next defensible terrain (as well as NUMPAD7).
It really is quite difficult finding keys that aren't already used for something else.

I wish I were so disciplined. "lots" is about as detailed as I get, as I dash back to find my men ...Martin wrote: ... if you're giving team-mates infornmation re troop numbers or specific regiments.
That shouldn't happen Have a shufti at your keyboard file and see if 7 is listed in it. I think by default it is for grouping units or something, which I have never done.Martin wrote: .I also find that '7' on the top row sends the current regiment forward to the next defensible terrain (as well as NUMPAD7).

I'll check. I definitely use the '7' key for advancing to cover, and I'm pretty sure I've never done it with the numbers pad.......but I may be forgetting (which has been know to happen).Blaugrana wrote:That shouldn't happen Have a shufti at your keyboard file and see if 7 is listed in it. I wonder whether a list of those keys which don't have another function would be useful?

Re: Avoiding crashes - whisper keys
I seem to have become quite adept at judging where the base of a fence is, even at a distance, and I find clicking on the terrain so much easier than so many commands. I use almost none of the keyboard when I'm playing, it's almost all mouse-work and Garniers toolbar. I think I mostly use the keyboard to... write courier messages!
Whatever the SoW commands are that use the numpad keys I do not know, for I've never used them. I just killed the whole lot off a couple of days ago so that I can use the numpad for whisper keys.
I also use 1-9 and 0 along the top row as whisper keys, I think when writing messages I use longhand; "twenty" instead of "20". Its a writing style I've always had since I was taught that way in school.

Re: Avoiding crashes - whisper keys
Most have another function. I arranged my list in alphabetical order just to see which ones were spare. You probably don't use most of them, however, and never will, so delete those you don't want.Martin wrote:I wonder whether a list of those keys which don't have another function would be useful?

Re: Avoiding crashes - whisper keys
Tough for me to find suitable keys for whispers since I play with hotkeys, almost no mouse action whatsoever. I will have to think of something though...

Just check which keys you do use and which you don't. Do you use the number keys and all the Numpad keys? Do you use WASD?MajorByrd wrote:Tough for me to find suitable keys for whispers since I play with hotkeys, almost no mouse action whatsoever. I will have to think of something though...

I use the Function Keys.
I think F5 throught to F12 are not used by SOW.
