February 21st 2009 American Civil War Game
There will be an American Civil War Game on Saturday 21st February 2009.
It will be held at a new venue, Mark Jarvis' home in which is near Hinton a village lying halfway between M1 (Northampton) and M40 (Banbury).
This topic is available for managing the game, please post here if you are interested.
More details will follow.

Re: February 21st 2009 American Civil War Game
For those interested and to allow you to try and work out travel arrangements here is the rough location: -
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/idmap.srf?x=451500&y=253500&z=130&sv=451500,253500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=idmap.srf&searchp=ids.srf&ax=451500&ay=253500&lm=0
Byfield is on the A361 and the house is roghly 15 mins drive from the Banbury M40 junction or 15 mins from Towcester (if you travel up the A5) or around 15 mins from the Northampton M1 Junction 16.
It usually takes me using the A5 to get to Hemel around 1.15 mins.
To encourage use of the forum I am looking for two CiC's who will play Jackson and Banks in a pre game PBEM.
You must have time to respond to me and return turns quickly as we do not have much time to the day.
You will also have to have a decent PC to view the maps as the files are rather large and you will be using your PC to view the ground.
The maps are real ones used in the period and created by Hotchkiss when he worked for Jackson in the Valley Campaign. The ground being fought over is between Strasburg and Harrisonburg.
I want to create a back ground to the game based upon your actions which I can then use for the actual game day.
The first 2 people to respond to this thread get this role if they want it. Let me know your preference.
I think we are looking at a maximum of 3 (maybe 4 at a push) players a side with one of those being the CiC.
Please let me know your interest ASAP.
Regards
MJ

Have a slight preference for playing as a subordinate, but happy to be a reserve for you on this if you are short of a volunteer, Mark.

Thanks Martin I have edited (or will do shortly) the topic above to show who we think will be turning up. Between us we should be able to keep track of who is doing what...
Two of the names above are Andy and Jerry who are from the Warwickshire Gamers group I attend on Monday nights and have expressed an interest in playing.

Course you can edit posts. The edit tab is just right of the title.
I've improved the icons, they were too well camouflaged!
PS I will be attending the game, happy to umpire.
Correction, whoops I forgot to check, I have a football match to see on this date so unfortunately I can't make it, but it looks like there will be plenty of people so I don't feel that guilty.

I will almost certainly be bringing my youngest boy, David, whom you know. A friend of his (James) also seems keen to give k/spiel a go. Hope that's ok.

Re: February 21st 2009 American Civil War Game
I think we are pretty much there.
Not a problem if more want to come but I reckon it will be as refs by the look of it.
Also I will wait a bit longer to see if anyone wants to do the pre game stuff. I know the two from Warwick would do it but I have told them to sign up here and say so to try and encourage use of this site.
But if say by next week no one has expressed an interest I will crack on with it with Andy and Jerry. (Actually Jere but he uses Jerry as people can't say the Finish very well...)
Anyway looking good and I hope it works out well... I presume David and his friend James wanted to play?

Yes I think they'd prefer to. If it would help, they would probably be happy playing as a team.

That's a good idea. Lets see how the day goes and we can keep them as a team if we have more players or split them if we need to.

Re: February 21st 2009 American Civil War Game
Thank you to Andy, Jere, John and David who played the game today and a big thanks to Steve who helped ref it.
I hope Paul is OK as I thought you were coming and I hope you did not get lost?
I will do a small write up at some stage. Just need to rest my legs as going up and down the stairs was a good work out for me and Steve.
Well played by both sides and a several good battles during the 3 hours we had of play. Could have gone either way.
Cheers

Just back from Northumberland. Wish we could have been there.
Hope the place is still intact, and that you will be allowed to host another

Re: February 21st 2009 American Civil War Game
Yes should be OK bar the fact that I found the Living Room Window had been opened and left open all night as I was not aware it had been opened. Fortunately we live in village so TV still in living room when got down there in the morning and opened curtains. It was only because I thought it was a tad cold did I find the window open.
Anyway I think she who must be obeyed will let me hold another as everyone was well behaved and as the last had just left Debbie arrived so she was spared the sight of the horde.
Just sorting out the photo's and I hope to have a small article typed up later this week.
I hope Saturday was as well as could be expected for you and I am now seeking a pass for the March game. So hope to see you there.

Re: February 21st 2009 American Civil War Game
So here we have a brief AAR of the game and some nice images of the map used...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/16572454@N06/sets/72157614910336757/show/
Experimenting with using Power point and saving the output as Jpegs.
Seems to work OK. You need to maximize the image for the list of forces and even then not too clear but you can just about make out the brigades involved...

Very interesting but when you use the term 'stands' I am not sure what you refer to.
Do you feel a face-to-face meeting was worthwhile or would only email contact have done as well?

Stands are a term used to describe what the unit would look like on a TT battle as I have used this system / campaign to generate battles for the Whipping Bobby Lee TT Rule Set.
This is for the Warwick Wargames group I belong to.
As for the other question you can always run KS as face to face or as E-mail.
Always fun to be face to face as you get quicker resolution, so not really sure what you are probing for with that?
BTW were you not coming that day? We waited a bit and then threw David into the role we had assigned for you....

Eek - did I say I was coming? Apologies if so but I do not recall suggesting that I would be available.
