I lived through the Vietnam era - yeah I'm old - and this series is bringing back some dreadful memories. The US is fucked up today but it was no bargain in the late 60's either.

Ken Burns does a very good job of just telling the facts and this makes quite depressing viewing. For me the mistakes began in 1946 when the French were allowed back in, after that it just went horribly downhill.

Have you ever seen Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States?
Interesting observations on the meaning of Truman becoming VP in 1944 instead of Henry Wallace. It asks the question of what would the world have been without a man like Truman calling the shots in the post-war era.
