Re: US Evening Games
I am looking to get more playing time/learning the system more. My main issue is that I am at work when the non-weekend games start.
So, I am seeing how much interest there would be for players wanting to play/learn on Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings. Perhaps start out with a training session or two (hopefully an advanced volunteer to show us some stuff like how to host a game, basics working with the KS mod format, etc.). Say around 9PM Eastern Standard time to give US West coast players an opportunity to get home and play a bit.
Ideally I would envision a training session or two (or more if warranted/wanted) and then a progression to scenarios that last an hour or two to get our feet wet, etc.
The goal would be to attract more US players, become more fluent in the game mechanics, more experienced in the game play overall and then able to help build mods, etc. to take some pressure off of other mod builders and for fun!
Based on this experience we might be able to recruit a bit more on the Norb/Matrix forums to attract like players. I have noticed that a lot of the non KS games that are being played through Steam really operate under the same time frame that the current KS group plays under (Mitra looks to be leading this and he is in Italy), so there could be a pool of US players that have like issues.
Feedback would be appreciated to see an interest level.
Thanks,
Tom W.

US Evening Games
I would definitely show up to some events Tom. I'm not very good at teaching being as I am very mercurial player, but I would be happy to interject my two cents here and there.

Re: US Evening Games
I put this topic into its own thread, Tom. I hope you don't mind.
Yes, I think this would be a good idea and would be happy to help out. There must be at least a few US players who would find evening play more convenient than playing in the afternoon.

Re: US Evening Games
There is a Matrix forum member called ETF. He has an account at NSD forums too. I know he is looking for a US based evening MP group. I'll tell him about this thread.
This is a great initiative Tom. If I am not working the next day I could even do an all-nighter occasionally.

Re: US Evening Games
Now that I have participated in my first MP game (a massive Russian v French affair that lasted almost six hours on Sunday), I have some thoughts/suggestions for the US evening game:
- 9PM Eastern start is going to be painful for work the next day. Do we know roughly how the American and Canadian players are spread across the continent i.e. Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific? I am Eastern.
- Based on the OP desires, and after the chaos I just participated in Sunday, perhaps we focus this game on smaller training-like scenarios?
So, I was thinking maybe a small two-hour Division v Division fight with players taking Brigades. Something like 4 v 4 with 2 Inf Brigades, 1 Cav Brigade and 1 Art Battery each? Maybe start at 8PM Eastern? Maybe Wednesdays (when wife has tennis )?
Thoughts?

Re: US Evening Games
I live in Colorado but I am flexible on the starting time. When an American group was playing SOWGB during the weekdays, we'd start at 7-7:30PM EST.
Training sessions are a good idea, but for the life of me, I'd say you got a good dose of boot camp in that battle yesterday. I doubt that we'd have enough players for PvP, so we'd likely play co-op against the AI.

Re: US Evening Games
Uncle Billy, I think you are the senior guy in this conversation. Are you or somebody else willing to host a small co-op game this Wednesday starting in the lobby at 7:30 EST and see who shows up? Or is there already another game on this Wednesday at 8:00 GMT?

Re: US Evening Games
I usually make a scenario for a Wednesday fight, it can be a smaller affair that runs 2 hours. I'll put something together for a planned 19:30 EST battle.

That sounds great. Should we post an announcement in the "arranged games" section? Thanks again.

Thanks Uncle Billy. Guess seven would be the optimum number of players. I will make a new announcement in the Arranged Games forum

Re: US Evening Games
I think it would be clearer to everyone if the US evening games were announced in the US evening games thread
I had assumed that everything would happen there.

The time was discussed there also. Figured it was best to make a separate announcement also, in case people were not following that thread.

Re: US Evening Games
Uploaded screen shots from last night to dropbox, but can't share the URL yet as a new member. I will pm the url to Uncle Billy and see if he can post.
Basically the screen shots show the initial French cavalry attack on our right supported by Italian infantry. Our Austrian grenadiers are in squares in the foreground; making pretty easy work of the French horsemen. Our artillery is off screen just to the left. Then a French infantry brigade coming over hill to support the Italians. And then the last two slides are our cavalry counter-attack which routed the Italian and French infantry.
Sorry about having to leave before the finish. Think my guys would eventually have moved up the hill, but they kept worrying about the remnants of Italian infantry and French cavalry on their right flank.
PS: Was thinking about the leader death issue we had. I understand trying to achieve realism, but dying a half dozen times while standing 50 yards behind my own infantry got pretty old. Maybe leaders than get within 50 yards of the enemy die, but otherwise no deaths. This would prevent leaders standing invincibly next to an enemy formation, while still allowing more playability for us as humans.

New US East Coast Player
Hey guys - I am new to the game about a week or so. I live on East coast and would love to be involved in some training/MP battles. I am pretty busy with a bunch of kids so evenings are best for me the 730 - 8 start time should usually work.
Looking forward

Ok, apparently I am not yet allowed to pm or e-mail a URL either. If you would like to see the screen shots from Wednesday evening, go to the base dropbox url and then paste this string: s/1mclgchx55vatgp/02Feb16USGame.zip?dl=0
Hopefully this works.
