Saturday 3rd October - player vs player
Our next test of the WL game with the KS mod will be a PvP game. I understand Kevin is putting together an Austrian vs French balanced game for this and it will be on a map that won't need any of the Gettysburg pay-for add-ons.
We'll need a minimum of six players so please post here if you can attend. Getting an idea of numbers would help us a lot.
Anyone with GCM links - please mention it over there - thanks!
Game time will be the usual 20:00 BST, 21:00 ECT, 15:00 EST. Please come into Teamspeak on Ike's server 30 mins earlier to allow for sides and roles to be allocated and planning to be done - PvP games need a lot longer than co-op ones so please bear this in mind and show up at least 30 mins early.
Thanks all

Hi Martin
Unfortunately, I cannot make this one.
I'm going to be in Hull all weekend celebrating my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Hope it goes well

I will take command of one side, I don't mind which one.

Re: Saturday 3rd October - player vs player
Prince Eugene has invested the fortress city of Murcia. Lacking a siege train, the prince must patiently await the inevitable surrender of the garrison. But now disturbing news has reached him.
An Austrian relief column has been reported to the NW heading for the city.
For this game, the Rio Segura is a significant obstacle. It may only be crossed via the bridges circled in red. Everywhere else, it is considered impassable.
The French may not enter Murcia. The breastworks represent the tall walls of the city and cannot be stormed. The Austrian garrison may sally forth from the city if they choose. To do so, they must use the roads that pass through the breastworks. They may not "climb" over the walls. However, the Austrians may not retreat back into the city if they are under fire by French troops. This represents the fact that the city gates are barred shut and opening them would allow not only the Austrians to enter, but also the French attackers. They will have to fight and die in front of the walls.
The objectives are simple. The Austrians must lift the siege of Murcia. The French must prevent this while maintaining their line of communication through the Pase Corbera.
This 3 hour battle will be played on the Lynchburg map. Forested areas are tree covered. DO NOT use ground color as an indication of wooded areas.
The three mods needed are KS Sprites 1.02, KS Supplemental Maps 1.09 and KS Napoleon Mod 1.13.
Detailed briefings will be available to each side. It would be best if CinCs would come forward ahead of time so they may see the precise disposition of their forces and plan accordingly.

You get to be Prince Eugene. A supply of frog legs is on its way.Pepe wrote:I will take command of one side, I don't mind which one.
We still need a CinC for the Austrians.

Will do Austrian CinC if no-one else will, but I really should be a last resort because:
a) Have no time to produce a plan before the game
b) My continuing PC problems mean I cannot guarantee to finish the game

Yesterday all the commanders did a great job in a complicated battle. It was hard to be more than 2 hours without a trace of the Austrians.
Special mention to Mark, a great fighting commander but he is so eager to fight that becomes more dangerous than a cavalry squadron with "attack soft targets" orders. Just the opposite of Grouchy, always moving towards the sound of the guns.

Re: Saturday 3rd October - player vs player
Sorry I crashed to desktop. Kept trying to tell my team on TS. Alas, for some reason my mic failed as well.
I think in the future I should have dropped the TS earlier, it would have given a clue that something was up.
Wasn't sure early in the game if the French saw my men moving north. 7th's Calvary did an excellent job keeping me hidden, it just wasn't known during the game.
Kind of a bummer looking at courier's stuck in rivers/streams.
Did notice some men having trouble crossing the river. Even though they were on the road they still slowed down to the movement penalty of river/stream. After looking at the bitmap it appears that having diagonal road pixel's is the cause. We might want to consider opening the crossings up by one pixel either side . I think a few extra open area pixel at diagonal river/road crossings would do the trick. Or may be a few extra diagonal road pixels at diagonal river/road crossings.
What do you think?

Re: Saturday 3rd October - player vs player
2 more of us crashed to desktop a few minutes before the game was due to end. Will be interested to know if Kevin can work-out why.
I agree with you re those river crossings. I had trouble myself, and I was only moving my general
Many thanks again to Kevin for running the game.
Martin (J)
PS If anyone has the replay, can you post it please?

This may be a good idea. It's worth trying in any case. I'll add a buffer of open spaces around the crossings and put the updated map in the next version of the mod.Did notice some men having trouble crossing the river. I don't know why we had people drop with only a few minutes left in the game. The log just says, "connection lost".

Re: Saturday 3rd October - player vs player
Thanks Pepe (I think ); honestly yesterday I performed the role of squadron commander far more than that of Commander of Division. Which was fine; I rode all the way to East and saw nothing about an hour and a half into the game. In my head I timed it and figured it would take no more than an hour of the Austrians were going to attack our Eastern flank. Alas, where were they?? Pepe did a great job as commander in chief, mostly reining me in! haha. On a seriously note, Pepe give me all the information I could want and I was never in the dark as to the strategic situation overall, and my divisions specific place in it. I realized how important the watch in the east was to our overall battleplan. Imagine my surprise when 20,000 "Spanish" came tumbling out of the eastern ravine. Orders were to fall back to high ground, which I had previously scouted. Hell, the whole damn Austrian army could have attacked me on that hill and I coulda held the remaining 40 minutes! Good contest.
As to the crash, perhaps Martin crashed and I, unluckily, crashed because I was just sending a courier as Martin crashed, so he took me with him. I had no trouble otherwise, but as I sent that courier Martin crashed which caused my game to pause and then I crashed out.
