Thanks Kevin for taken the heat off me! I am now on your side and we should report the new lunatic to the Crown!

with the report from Kevin I don't even have to say anything about your conduct, Morsey... jeez - if you think he "helped" you there I suggest you reread his post

the main problem however seems to be that Pepe usually gets off rather easily....
we'll have to do something about that...

Utter rubbish. Had I known you were there, I am sure a bullet would have found your head.Hiller wrote:only the bravery of the individual Austrian soldier and the personal inspiration and natural leadership presence of FML Hiller (myself) ensured final victory on the field in this ill-lead attack!

I have to say I had a blast playing HITS today my first time out. It took me a bit to remember how to send courier text messages ... and funny how you think your buddies are just off your right flank when there is actually a gap ... Or how I thought I was too far forward and fell back.
And here I thought I was being tactically superior by hitting the French in flank and rear only to realize that what I was actually doing was closing the gap in our lines that I had created in the first place by aligning left to Roland and if fact was hitting the last of the French who had previously poured thru the gap to slam dunk Kevin and Mike lol.
Ah such is life in a HITS game
Thank you Roland, Kevin, Mike and Pepe for a great time.

You were hiding in a little outhouse the entire time, Mike. I saw you. Cowering. Sending imaginary orders. And that was before the shooting even started.
Tell you what tho. It took me a bit to recognize the name of my own officer. And somebody needs to replace the million different Russian battalion flags with a red one, hammer and sickle.

Well you always say you "are at corps headquarters" and ... Wait ... Oh I get it. You don't want the outhouse thing going public. Well no problem, bro, I will not tell anyone.

Re: Napoleonic HITS Game June 6-7
Yesterday's battle was an interesting problem for the CinC. The plan to advance on a broad front meant that mutual support of any one division would be difficult at best. The foggy conditions that day made it imperative that the CinC be in constant courier contact with everyone. It also prevented each division to know what was in their front.
As it turned out, out middle division was the smallest and advanced against the largest and most aggressive French division. Once our artillery was driven away, the outcome in the center was a forgone conclusion. Without knowing what was happening on the wings and being witness to the collapse of our center, Mike made the only rational decision available to him. He actually acted like a commander and not Conan the barbarian. Of course that won't save him from counting birches in Siberia.
It is also interesting to contrast this with Saturday's battle which was against a numerically superior force. Here the divisions were able to mutually support one another and one division was always in reserve. At the the beginning of the battle, Pepe's reserve was able to move up and assist Mike in fending off the French attack from the south. Once that was underway, my division was able to disengage and pull back to a superior defensive position, forcing the enemy forces in the west to spend time to redeploy and renew their attack. By that time, the fight in the south was mostly over and Mike and Pepe could take over the role of reserve while my division re-engaged.
Of course in each, I was commanded by someone completely unhinged. It seems to be my fate to be commanded by the insane.

LOL Kevin nice analogy.
You do know that you are the reason we all strive to be loonie!
Oh by the way Siberia is not so bad this time of year it is only 5 below

A black day for the Russian Empire, the Romanov dynasty and the Tolstoy family. The disgraceful behavior of the Russian Corps calling off an attack has no precedent in the annals of the nation.
Russian officers and soldiers will have to wipe that stain out with their blood.

Pepe it is only a game. You should be appointed permanent CinC since I embarrassed you so much yesterday. Sheesh....

indeed... only a game....
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT: for the first time I had to look something up in my english dictionary - for I was unfamiliar with terms like "retreat, fall back, retrograde movement, RUN and reform, turn away from the enemy.... "

See Roland you learned something! What I don't know, maybe live to fight another day. I would be interesting to see if Kevin could adjust yesterday scenario losses and we try it again.

Re: Napoleonic HITS Game June 6-7
Yes Mike, is a game and I want to play it. I still can't believe it.
Battle starts at 15:00h.
15:27h. First shot.
At 15:52h. I get a message "pull back to the start point I am calling this attack off".
Too soon to throw the towell, with 2,500 men lost out of 26,000.
But the point is that before making the decision about ending the game the team should be asked, or not?
Maybe there were others who wanted to keep playing.

Re: Napoleonic HITS Game June 6-7
I can see both points - no doubt...
The CinC decided to end this - so be it... this is why we have a CinC... so I see no issues there...
of course he could have fallen back and then regrouped - which is what I expected he would do - which will probably happen next time!
I can also see the Pepe's point - maybe we need to encourage the CinC in such a situation further in the future and simply convince him to go on

Re: Napoleonic HITS Game June 6-7
This sounds more complicated than I thought. Before we end a game all players should agree to do so. The C-in-C is an in-character role only whose orders should be obeyed within a professional military context.
Note the phrases "should be obeyed" and "within a professional military context". Those are important things to bear in mind. We are obviously having fun but there's a line when fun descends into fooling around and I fear we've got close to or gone just over that line a little recently.
The C-in-C player does not have authority to end any game; only a player concensus may do that. A scenario author (not the host) may also end a game if he knows objectives have been met by one side and there is no possibility of the other side doing anything that will make a difference. He should then explain why he ended the game in the debrief session.
In addition we've had a lot of rather over the top role-playing on the forums recently. I would prefer it if this was dialled back a few notches. No ordering player X to do a suicide attack on an enemy's guns every game just because its player X. We are role-playing here so every battle you are a different personality and/or nationality and should not bring any friendly rivalries from the forums into our games.
We should never breach the 4th wall.
There's been some rather heavy over-use of emoticons on the forums as well recently. Maybe we could be enthusiastic about our games without being quite so... um... graphically demonstrative.
Thanks all.

Re: Napoleonic HITS Game June 6-7
I have never wanted to be CinC, was always assigned it and only accepted out of respect and please leave me out of it for now on.
Had no idea there was any protocol about ending a game.
Also it was player consensus at least I thought at except for one.
This is turning out to be a very frustrating event.
I would like to go further but that would only ruffle feathers and there is no sense of that; this is only a game when that part comes to an end it would be better to find something else to do.

Re: Napoleonic HITS Game June 6-7
well - I am going to stop taking part in this discussion right here since I again see where this is going - and I don't like it at all...
few points however before I quit the field knowing what will happen anyway:
1) I believe you are overlooking a certain "fun"-factor here, Mr Digby - noone ever ordered player X to take certain guns just because he was player X - you have not been part of these battles, so you cannot really see what was going on. Why Morsey ordered Kevin to charge the guns when he was CinC a few weeks ago - I do not know and he must explain that himself- when I was CinC on Saturday Kevin was the next guy in the area - simple as that... so please don't imagine things that are not there....especially when you have not been there. (and although we do enjoy a bit of banter I am more than convinced that Kevin analyzed the situation in the same way!)
2) any CinC in a battle should have the ability to call his units to fall back and retreat... that should be his choice... noone has to fight until the entire army has been destroyed. Morsey had his centre destroyed and he knew little about his flank - apparently... so he called for a retreat. A sound military decision - I wish more players would actually find the word "retreat" or at least "fall back" in their vocabulary.
That it resulted in the actual end of the game is a different matter - BUT - if a CinC is not allowed to make the decision to disengage from the enemy... well - then we need to stop having a CinC. period.
3) I see an overall tendency of you, Digby, playing morale apostle as of late - I am not sure if you should have the monopoly on that. As you have seen before - and even as Martin James has seen and used - I for one can always be reasoned with (since I can always just state MY opinion) - so if someone personally mentioned feels insulted things can be changed... but I believe it should be up to each individual to decide that.
I would also have liked to have seen a few things when I first came onto this forum - you were the first to give me a telling off - only to come to the same discussion a few weeks later and actually react the same way - with the same result...
not sure what to think of all this - especially when you come back after a weekend off and apparently analyse battles and banter going along with these you have not been a part of!
