Kriegsspiel pieces have arrived!
I am overjoyed. My custom Kriegsspiel pieces have arrived.
You will notice the pieces were customized for the American Civil War. The Good Guys are trimmed in gray, and the bad guys in blue. Each branch also has a color which corresponds to the color of the insignia for the branch of service. Yellow for cavalry, red for artillery, and sky-blue for infantry.
I also had the pieces custom numbered for a software program we use which automates skirmish results.
You can get a set like this for around $200 USD. You can get a basic, unnumbered, default colored set for as little as $30, or a full set with 3 matching divisions for around $100. I was quoted $200 because I requested three matching divisions with custom colors and numbers. I was given a deal however, particularly as a repeat customer.
The link to the site were I ordered the pieces is here:

I am very satisfied with the communication and work of the maker; nice guy named Tom.
You will also notice the rulers are custom engraved with the name "So Cal Kriegsspiel Society." We needed a name to brand our group. Now we need a website!
We will host our first official Kriegsspiel game in May, 2015, although I am hopeful we can use the pieces as early as next month in a practice skirmish.
I am still in need of a good ACW map. Cost is no object, as long as it looks nice.

Re: Kriegsspiel pieces have arrived!
Malcolm McCallum did a bunch of maps for a Napoleonics game he set up. You can see the style here http://web.archive.org/web/20140622040853/http://www.murat.ca/maps.htm
I remember him making one of the east coast for an ACW setup that he didn't develop. Not sure how complete it was, but you might want to contact him if you like his style of maps. He'd probably freely share the map (I've looked for it in vain on the way back machine, I think it was hosted his forum which he has deactivated along with the campaign website).

Beautiful maps!
I'd need a local scale, almost of a town, or just the countryside somewhere.
How do I contact this guy?

They are amazing maps. The scale is (admitted by the artist) a bit wonky for Russia, but it makes for a better game. I think they are inspired by 'cube-games' like Quebec 1759 and Waterloo (Columbia games).

There is a link on there for a hotmail address.
