An ACW Campaign

An ACW Campaign Empty An ACW Campaign

Post  Mr. Digby Sun Sep 07, 2014 7:52 pm

I think a change of pace is good and while the Nap campaign is going very well I was considering running an ACW one in parallel so that we could swap the game periods we play on a week-on/week-off basis.

I am far less knowledgeable on the ACW than Napoleon's wars so I'd need some help of selecting a suitable theatre and period. I think a semi-historical setting would be the best way to start as we did with the Peninsular game but then allow commanders to choose their own destiny within a somewhat controlled framework.

I am also wondering what level to pitch the campaign at. Marching armies and corps around the place on the Spanish map seems to appeal to people and in half-a dozen battles we haven't had a battle yet that SoW couldn't handle though I have of course put an artificial cap on army size of 25k with the suply rules.

I feel some sort of cap of that kind is needed to allow things to remain manageable, most probably an infrastructure rule so that a certain region can't support a body of troops in excess of a certain number.

The war in the east was mostly a static affair for a long time. Perhaps there's a source of interesting manouver in the western theatre or trans-Misissippi.

I'm wondering if a political post at the head of each army who issues orders and releases or draws back in resources (such as rail or river transport assets) would be a role someone might enjoy.

I'm open to all ideas and suggestions.
