Sign up quickly. I need to get this one out no later than Thursday PM my time.

This one will be a whopper. I am going to try to use a GCM map...

Good luck.

A great army shall be defeated!

But this will not be the final battle of the campaign... I envision 1 or 2 more following this one.

Battle is scripted in my head and I can set it up pretty quick. I'll send the file to Mitra and Digby by Thursday night so they can test on Friday.

I need to speak with Stefan regarding how to employ a GCM map into the editor. Since he changed the editor, I am not sure if something in the process has changed. Worst case I can default back to a Gettysburg stock map, but I'd rather not. The battle will be quite large and we need to avoid lag and instability from the map.

I'm pretty sure some of Garnier's maps work with Stefan's editor as we used the v6 and v7 ones with some Nap battles a while back.

We need to make sure all GCM players download the map in advance. Most of us only have the ones from the GCM and they get replaced every month or so.

I totally created the poll in Pacific, dude, my bad. I hope it's not too intense for ya dude. It's like driving directions. Take the 5 to the 405, then take the 110 and you're in Santa Monica. If you go up the 1 from there, it's totally Malibu.

Yes, we really do talk like that in day-to-day conversation.

I'm just boasting that I'm from California and it's kinda awesome.

That said, yes, all times are created in Pacific. Add +3 for EST and +8 for London.

Thanks, bro.

Hi Neal

which GCM map do you want to use exactly? Then I can show you how to add that (if it is not yet included in the Generator).

Leffe7,

I don't care which map as I suspect they are all largely the same, just tessellations of various terrain with some roads, minimal buildings and lag?

As such, if I had to ask for one in particular, it would be the very first one, or the best one for a large game. I only require that it be mostly flat and 5 miles across.

Thanks,

Neal

They differ a lot. Some have a major watercourse, some have none. Some have an intense network of walled fields, some have few, some are heavily wooded, some are quite open. A few have 'round top' type hills, some are very flat. None have buildings. None have major hill ranges like the historic maps.

Picking one at random without proper consideration will affect the game a great deal.

Neal, I agree with Digby. I strongly suggest that you load up and choose a map before creating the scenario.

Easiest solution is to use one of the three included "Garnier Random Maps 6" maps.
"Garnier Random Maps 4" is also included in the Generator, but IIRC this could result in bad minimap sizes together with the Large Couriers and Maps mod - this should be tested first. With the small Couriers and Maps Mod they are also fine.

It's true that there are no buildings (a key factor in minimizing lag). Beyond that there's quite a lot of variation in terrain, forestation, placement of waterways, and elevations.

GCM is currently playing with maps 410-434. The link below includes the mini-maps for a selection of these. As you can see, some are fairly wide open and flat; others are heavily wooded with more water; while still others have rather large hills. All have place-name references. Selected GCM Random Maps

Kevin, are you familiar? You're defending, I don't mind you picking the terrain.

I'm at work and my time is short, so it's hard for me to filter through and choose a perfect map. If Kevin knows one or my choices can be narrowed to a few or so, I can go from there.

I'm not sure the GCM images load in the scenario builder so I can't see the differences? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm burning the candle on both ends this week...

Random Maps 6 are the ones Garnier made for Napoleon battles, I think, pretty open and rolling hills, will make for an artilleryman's dream.

I tried getting them from the NSD forum but the only one's I've found are from march and there is no v6 or v7. Could someone provide me a link?

We are light on arty across the board. I want to favor infantry movement with some cover, if practicable.

Here: http://www.norbsoftdev.net/forum/napoleonic-era/56809-random-maps-for-napoleonic

The "A" maps are random maps 6.

I thought you Germans knew how to navigate and search a forum.

Interesting. . . you guys know how kick the heck out of a soccer ball, but can't search a forum.

What is this Soccer you speak of?

We outsourced forum search to lower income countries years ago.

The newish 100 random maps have a good selection of rolling terrain, open fields and woods. They are noticeably more wooded than Randoms6 or Randoms7. Everyone would have to use the Small Couriers&Maps mod though, as Kevin hasn't made large scale minimaps for any of these.

Are you using Stefan's scenario generator?

I think randoms6 and 7 are in that but the new 100 are not. You'd have to use a manual scenario build.
