Just west of Hue, we surprised & drove back an enemy force at the ARVN training area. This force was larger than expected, and I may need your help there soon if they regroup.

In the southern outskirts of Hue, we ambushed an enemy force advancing toward Hue and destroyed several trucks.

Send sitrep, supply situation, and especially intel re enemy forces approaching city.

Reports from our forces in the field:
The battalion between Phu Bai and Hue has had some success in destroying many American trucks and they are now in positions digging in across Rte 1 to ensure that it is blocked. This was during the evening of Jan. 31.

The battalion Between PK17 and Hue (also on Rte 1) has reported that during the late afternoon a ARVN force has been ambushed on the road and stopped. The enemy has pulled back to re-group.

Our patrols along our supply route have not reported any enemy contact, although American recon Helos have been heading South of Hue from Camp Evans.

No information on supplies--battalions were deployed with 2 point each in possession.

Rockets will fire on south side of Hue, south of Song Huong river, as long as ammunition is available, unless you would like them to pick another target.

1) Excellent work repelling enemy both north and south of Hue. Congratulations patriot.

2) I have reports of ARVN units arriving east of Hue in the area north of the Song Van Duong and East of Song Huong. Not known what route they arrived by - but it's possible they traveled from the south along coastal road passing through 82.5 - 24.5.

3) Enemy elite "Hac Bao Black Panthers" company is pinned down and surrounded at airport inside Hue. We intercepted enemy radio signal requesting helicopter evacuation... Please. Let them come.

4) Shift 122mm rocket fire to ARVN HQ inside Hue - the Mang Ca area. Continue bombardment through night of 1st and day of 2nd. We attack Mang Ca on the night of the 2nd.

5) Listen on the radio for code words "The Trung sisters' languorous violins", which will be broadcast in the evening on the 2nd after darkness falls. Cease 122mm bombardment immediately when you hear that code. It signals our assault on Mang Ca.

Comrade General, thank you and acknowledged. Rocket supply is low so bombardment will take place but may be less intense than initially.

A large force of friendly reinforcements estimated 3 Bn strength, expected to arrive daylight Feb 3 at trail head 53.5 / 25.5, will be under your command. Bring this force down the supply road and deliver it to Hue, and transfer it to my command there.

If circumstances require it, use this force in the field as necessary to keep the supply road open, and/or crush the enemy.

Message to Gen. Tran Van Do: Forces north of Hue at roughly 27, 67 under attack; defending as best they can. Forces south of Hue adjusting to block possible bypasses of Rt 1; no enemy observed currently.

Message to Gen. Tran Van Do:

Battalion north of Hue at approximately 27, 67 under heavy attack by ARVN and US and may not hold out; will withdraw few km to south if necessary to avoid being overwhelmed.

Enemy use of airfield detected at Van Xa (27.5, 64); am sending infantry company from river crossing at supply road to attack airfield at night. If strongly held, they will withdraw to original position.

Large ARVN force detected at Thon Bon Tri (21.9, 69.4). They appear to be heading towards Rte 1 and have many wounded with them.

3 reinforcement battalions have arrived from the west (26, 53) with supplies. I have ordered them down the supply road to attack the ARVN at Thon Bon Tri if they are still present. If not, reinforcements are to head northeast from there to vicinity of Rt 1 and report to you so you may lead them in crushing the capitalist running dogs.

Rocket battery is out of ammunition and relocating slightly to west.

Battalion south of Hue at 17.5, 83.5 holding position and being probed by enemy.
