Reporting for duty!!! Empty Reporting for duty!!!

Post  Lasalle Tue Sep 11, 2012 11:08 pm

Hi everyone!...Im quite new with SOW, but not with the dynamics since I played TC2M and HCBR, and loved both games. Ive been reading the forum topics and I was completely astonished by some narrations of hits games experiences. Ive had some of my own but just single player and with my brother, and although the experience is great, i guess that the more human commanders the better!!!...So I can wait to join any multiplayer game using hits rules. Just tell me who I have to kill to get in!!!....or maybe just what mods or version of the game are u using and ill try to get it. I have 1.3.

Thanks!...cheers!...

Hi Lasalle, welcome to the forums.

You will need to patch your game to the latest beta. The current version is 1.4026.

You will also need Kevin's Couriers & Maps mod, the current version is v1.451. Right now the latest version isn't public so you'll have to have that e-mailed to you by one of us.

Thirdly, you'll need to install Teamspeak 3 and get yourself a mic.

Our Teamspeak server info.

Great thanks!...ill download that now.

I have a question...actually a doubt....you do not use team sepak during the games...do you???...because I think that the whole hits courier experience is lost if you do...correcto me if Im wrong.

Another thing...How do I get that file sent to me!?

Like Digby pointed out, you can have it sent via email or can get a link to download at the teamspeak server when someone with it zipped to send is there.
Id suggest first port of call be the teamspeak server to meet some of the folks and find out more info. Very Happy

In fact if you re read Digby's post all the information you need to get started is right there in the links.Just click on them and all will be revealed.

Welcome Lasalle. I look forward to seeing you on the field. The latest Courier & Maps mod 1.451 is posted on the NSD forum. Here are the links

If your vertical screen resolution is less than 1024 use the small maps instead.

Teamspeak helps enormously in organizing the start of games.
During the "Hits" games ts is rarely used, basically when you are
with another player in game and your generals are side by side you use the whisper mode.
In the GCM its broken into Reb and Yank channels and anything goes.

Steve (sspoom) is right. We use Teamspeak to meet up and discuss the game beforehand and agree sides or to split up into separate channels prior to the game to issue briefings and orders and discuss plans at a virtual general's field HQ.

Once in-game we stay "in-character" and never speak, unless as Steve says, your general figure (avatar) rides up to another players and you discuss things privately via a 'whisper' channel. Someone in the Teamspeak server will get you sorted out with teh whispers thing. Its not tricky.

Having everyone able to talk in the main channel during games however also makes it easy to resolve problems such as game crashes or a player losing connection of having to leave due to real-life, etc.

BTW Lasalle - last point - you need to run the game full screen and not in a window. We have found through trial and error that if some players run windowed and some not, it appears to add extra strain on the internet traffic and can cause crashes.

Sir,

Before you participate, you may wish to ask yourself these questions to decide which side to play.

1. Dost thou consume alcohol, or tobacco?
2. Art thou a fornicator?
3. Playeth thee with dice, cards, or the various implements of sin? Dost thou gamble they wages?
4. Dost thou condone the invasions and depredations of evil upon the fair lands of the Southern Confederacy?
5. Art thou a coward?

If you answer no to each of these questions, then you may feel most comfortable playing as a Confederate with the Father General. If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may be least comfortable playing as a blue-bellied Unionist snake under the heel of the hell-bound General William M.T. Georgia.

Well, okay, cheers. Have a nice day, and welcome!

-The Father General

Hey I have one more question, I downloaded the couriers and maps mod, no problem there, i downloaded 1.4026,...but when i was about to install, I read I needed 1.4 installed previously. SO I naborted and am now downloading 1.4. from the forum. Is this necesary really?. or am I just wasting time and space?.
should I install 1.4 before updating to 1.4026?

I think you do need to do that, yes. Also make sure no mods are enabled when you patch your game. Go into the Modifications screen and click any mod name that has a yellow rectangle to its left, until there are no yellow rectangles displayed. Click the TICK button and then you can exit the game to patch it.
