Face to face games at Little Gaddesden for 2021 deferred until 2022
The following games originally planned for this autumn at Little Gaddesden have been postponed:
Sunday 17th October 2021 - ACW battle at grand-tactical level, on a beautiful map produced by our friends in the Southern California KS group
Sunday 21st November 2021 - Late Napoleonic campaign set in Saxony and Poland. Plenty of politics and other period skulduggery

You Luddites need to move into the 21st century and use one of those new fangled computer programs such as skype, zoom or discord.

Well bless my soul.........such strange words. Skype, zoom? Whatever next? Typewriters?
My head's spinning. I must speak to Granny Wilkins about all of this.

I found the poll for November's Napoleonic game but don't see one for October's meeting. Help!

In view of the continuing Covid-related issues, it has been agreed to postpone the planned October and November Little Gaddesden games to the spring of 2022.
Given the risk of another winter spike in infections, we are currently working on the assumption that our first face-to-face game will be in May 2022.

The rise in cases was clearly going to happen once restrictions were lifted, but my local wargames club is meeting once a week and we have some rules in place to help mitigate germ-transfer issues, etc. All who attend must sign up beforehand so we know who is present if there are issues and people need to be contacted. As the Little Gaddesden group is small (and mostly sensible) I think we could carry on with meetings this autumn and put in place some relevant and effective rules. I'd be happy to draw up some ideas.

Unfortunately Digby, that ship has sailed and cancellations have been made.
We did give it a lot of thought but the need to maintain our financial situation meant we couldn't risk attendance dropping before these games. Also, we needed to give the Hall Committee maximum notice that we were not going to use the premises. As you might imagine they have had a hard time over the last 18 mths and as we have always maintained good relations with them, considered it only fair to allow any other parties who were looking for those dates to jump in and maintain the Hall's income.
In addition, regardless of the wonders of technology, its often a problem contacting everyone at short notice and given the widespread area our players come from, we generally do our utmost to avoid people standing out side the Hall wondering where every one has got to! This tends to lead us to a cancellation orientated policy.
As Martin mentioned we were aware of a potential spike as the weather gets colder and other factors like, an increase following children going back to school and the round of returnees from holidays etc adding to potential problems. The Government for all the success of the Vaccine policy is no better placed to judge the likely effects of all this than it was at the start. No one has done this before.
For example, I for one would like to see some hard data on the transmission from those who have been double jabbed and still caught Covid. A close friend was in that cohort and thanks to the protection the Jabs gave him, was totally unaware he was infected until contacted by his sports club. He was still infectious though. If you consider people awaiting a medical procedure (for example) still have to isolate and there are other similar issues that are still relevant, not just to group members but their close contacts as well, we felt we needed to play it safe.
So, all in all, we decided that for the sake of just two games, we would carry them over into next year when we might have a better understanding.
In the meantime, we would be very interested in what rules/protocols you could advise on from your local club that we could benefit from in the long term.
Thanks in advance
