I initially thought the sounds of the artillery in SOW were a little suspect....
However.
Here are several videos involving teams of deranged fanatics, such as myself, engaging in a little geeky fun.
I have no idea what a 4.62" iron ball costs, but the standard charge for a Civil War 12lb Napoleon is 2.5lb of fffg powder, current cost $19.00/lb.
Lots of good background reference and color here. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did, and, perhaps you have not seen them.
Judging from the first video, the sound of the shot downrange was...'unnerving'... as Wellington might say. SOW sound is not far off....
Also, the pattern of cannister hits on the 'regimental wall' is interesting.

For fun

I've seen some of these before but thank you for listing them all in one place. The first one showing projectiles striking downrange is the most interesting. I've read accounts from soldiers who wrote that cannonballs flying overhead sounded like "angry hornets" and you can understand why.
The canister firing into the ground certainly produces some great sound effects.
It would be good if some European Napoleonic re-enactors could do controlled firings of smaller smoothbore guns so we could note the different sounds.

I was hoping to find some posts from Europe, but no joy...
If anyone has some, please post them. I keep hoping for live-firings of Infantry and Artillery from all the major combatants..
