Having just registered here, I look forward to doing battle here.
I have played this game since the early days of Take Command Bull Run, and find SOWG to be the best CW type game ever. HITS is the only way to go, it makes you feel like its your command choices that work or don't. The fact that you don't really know for sure what could be just on the other side of that ridge until its scouted properly is exciting, the AI will the woods to flank you almost every time so you must always keep that in mind, and will also march on you under concealment by using valleys too.
Anyways can't wait!

Welcome Company B, and a big Hi to Texas!
As you imply, Gettysburg is the development of earlier games on 1st and 2nd Bull Run/Manassas, and that has paid dividends in the current version. The team at Norbsoft is moving in a good direction, and I'm keen to see what comes next.
Yes, riding up to a ridge with no idea what's on the other side is exciting. A few times I have gone over the crest and bumped into an enemy army, on at least one occasion losing my life.
For those who don't have the game, HITS is an acronym for 'headquarters in the saddle' where the game camera view is limited to what your commander could actually see. This is the approach we will be using for our multiplayer games. You can play the game like one from the 'Total War' series, with an unrestricted view, overhead camera etc if you wish, and lots of folks do.
